Shih-Tzu is eating dog poop and throws up yellow bile

My 13 month old Teddy has been eating his dog poop and this morning he throw up yellow bile, is this normal for a shih-tzu?  I am worried and wondering if I should take him to vet.  He eats Purina Complete and it his throw up is in the morning once in while.  He does eat people food but did not get any last night.  I left him alone for a while last night and that is not normal.

Please help I am a new dog owner and I want to make sure he is ok.

Oh I'm so glad to hear the good news!  I've always fed twice a day and it never occurred to me that feeding time might cause the troubles.  Makes sense though.  And yes, cleaning up is essential.  With 2 dogs I have to do poo patrol every day without fail, and we have a large cul-de-sac lot of almost 1/2 acre!  :-)

Thank you for your help.  I took Teddy to the vet and he got a through exam.  He is in great health and the vet stated that I need to feed him twice a day instead of once a day.  I also need to clean up after him so he does not eat is poop.  Which is hard right now with the snow but I do the best I can.  He is doing great and has not done either one lately.

Thanks again for caring.

Yes, your pup needs to see a vet.  Some dogs just love to eat poo, but they generally don't eat their own waste.  You need to be vigilant in your poo-patrol and not allow that behavior to become set.

Vomiting on an empty stomach (bile) is much more worrisome than vomiting up food soon after a meal.  There are too many conditions to list here, but they all call for medical examination and diagnosis.  This kind of vomiting should not be happening in such a young dog.

Thanks for taking care of your pup, and do post back and let us know what you've found out.  :-)
