What can be the cause of my dog vomiting and not eating?

My 9 yr old lab had been vomiting since a long time but nothing could be detected. Then a vet performed a few surgeries of intestinal obstruction and then peritonitis on him lately. He was on antibiotics for 9 days. It has been 2 days since he is off antibiotics now. He had to be given general anesthesia thrice and local anesthesia twice. All this might have taken a toll on him too. But after the surgery he is still not eating and throws up blackish-brown clear stinking vomit every night. This was originally the peoblem, which I think couldn't be solved by the surgery. What else could be wrong with him? His xrays, endoscopy were all clear. Blood test right now has a high sgpt, for which we are giving him tablets and it is coming down. Yesterday he did drink alot of water but otherwise he doesn't even drink water. What else can be wrong with him?

A high SGPT could indicate liver damage which may have been effects from the anesthetics...(?). But if you say the medications are bringing this down, then that is positive.

The vomiting type you describe sounds very much like the kind from an intestinal blockage, and possibly with some bleeding involved (?) Yet you say endoscopy and X rays say all is well....

Yet it doesn't add up to me because this sounds like vomiting of fecal matter possibly, which would indicate some obstruction remaining somewhere along the digestive tract, or very seriously delayed stomach emptying is another thought.

I do think you need to go back to the vet, or even another vet. Your poor dog, I am so sorry he is so unwell like this.

I am not a vet and have no veterinary training. I am just trying to support and help on this site, and I also have no experience of this type of condition.
