puppy's eye

Hi! My labrador puppy just opened their eyes last Tuesday (14 days old), I saw there was blue and cloudy film covered in their eyes. And I have no any experiences about that, so I used a flashlight to Irradiate one puppy's eye and check if he can see yesterday (19 days old).

I am now so worried that the flashlight will harm my puppy's eyes. Could someone with experiences tell me if my puppy's eyes will be harmed by flashlight seriously?

thank you!

Hi Margot49,thank you for your advice! I shined the flashlight to one puppy's eye only 3-4 seconds. I noticed the puppy closed his eyes when the lights reached him, it indicated my puppy can see the lights.

I have 6 lab puppies, born on June 11th, and all of them are healthy, very cute!
I say they are small & weak because they are only 19 days old. Their weight is normal, no problem.

I am now very regret & feel myself guilty for my behavior! Really hope all of my puppies would be fine and grow healthy!

The VET suggest me wait and watch, no need to do anything right now.

Pups open their eyes on average between 10-14 days old and start to hear also.  Time and appearance sounds normal.  How long were you shining the light in the eye?    I doubt you did any damage but you should be able to do some simple testing to determine if his vision is ok.  Try to get his attention by shaking a toy or something in front if the pup and off to the side.  Keep quiet and don't use anything that makes noise.  Also, try a dark room and shine a flashlight slowly around to see if he follows the light.  Their vision is not absolutely clear right away.
If you suspect a problem, have the pup evaluated by a Vet.
How many pups and why are you saying it is small and weak? Have you been checking weights regularly?

Hi BluCrystal, thank you very much for your advice! Because the puppy is very small, only 19 days old, and just opened his eyes, that's why I worry about that. Because I think he is too small too weak!

thank you!

No.  If you recall ever going to the eye doctor, he flashed all sorts of lights in your eyes, and you are not blind.  Same idea here. :-)  Please consider taking the pup to the vet for futher treatment.  Blessings - Blu
