Why go in circles for 15 minutes?

Our 1 year old Shih Tzu runs in circles for 10 to 15 minutes (or longer) before she urinates, also, she is extremely skiddish, she was 4 months old when we got her. .....at least she goes outside, but I have to stand there as she has to be kept on a leash.

You are not alone. I have a 10 month old shih tzu & she is very similar. It's very stressful.

Hhhmmm... sounds a bit eccentric to me.  I have spent a lot of time around dogs, seen them do some weird stuff.  This is a new one for me.  I don't even see a way to train her to not do this, since it is directly related to elimination, which must happen.  If you tried to stop her, she might make an effort to stop, but then would she refuse to potty?  Hold it until you are not looking and do it in the house?  Maybe you should google it and see what you can find.  Blessings - Blu

Could it be painful to urinate? I'd have a urinalysis done to rule out UTI or crystals or anything that could create pain while urinating.....After medical issues are ruled out, go from there.....Karla

Yes, odd to do it for that long.
Has she always done this or is this new behavior?  Dies she do this at and away from home?

My shih tzu is 3 years old. She runs in for about 5mins around the table or back and forth. It is normal for a shih tzu. However, be careful they can get overheated quick
