It might take more than a day. I think a dog over 20 pounds (what, 10 kilos?) can take up one Benadryl every 8 hours. That's where I was with our 21 pound Westie, but it didn't help.
Food allergies, or contact allergies can be the cause. Has you dog been eating anything different, or been walking in new areas.. perhaps you have new carpeting or something else the dog might react to.
The vet can check for mange (sp?) and other problems with a simple skin scrapping if they have the "lab" stuff (I don't know what the vet has to have, our vet is able to take sample of the skin and goop out of the ears and test. Our Westie is also troubled with Yeast. If you dog has that problem you will detect a strange odor. Some had described is as something like corn chips (not sure I know what that smell is but I do know Yeast smells bad).
thanks we wormed her not to long ago, what ever it is its driving her mad, hopefully will get it sorted if not will have to go to vets tomorrow.but thank you
thanks we have looked and there is a rash but its not just around her bottom noticed it is also on her belly, and under one of her arm pits as well,i have bought some benadryl and gave it to her, will have to see how it goes if no better tomorrow will have to take her to the vets i think ?
thanks but we recently did her anal glands and it hasnt helped, shes still doing the same thing usually last for a few weeks, but this time it has gt worse but thank you
yes molly, this is a big sign of worms,i have a jack russell part chihaua
I would take a look at the area at the base of the tail, check all the skin you can see to see if there is any rash problems.
It could be an allergy reaction.. maybe a simple antihistamine will help along with a good wash, maybe use medicated shampoo, dog shampoo. In the us many of us Benadryl (or a generic cheaper form) and add it to the dog food. There is also "hot spot" treatments in our pet supply stores that may help if you see any skin irritation.
As this is a repeat, you dog may have a reaction to something you feed him, anything new? It is generally best to feed a grain free if you use kibble, and one of the brands that say something like "no additive".
Good chance she needs her anal glands expressed. If you don't know hiw, try calling a groomer and they may do it for you.
