Bug flew up my nose. Any risk?

I'm just sitting here on the computer and a small bug, I think it was a moth or gnat or fly or something, flew up my nose suddenly. My hand quickly shot to my nose and tried to swat it away but I'm not sure if I got it or not. I blew my nose hard after that and even (sorry for the oh so gory details) picked at it a bit. I can't feel anything up there, but my question is what if it flew right up and is still in there. Is there any possibility any of the bugs I suggested could lay eggs in my naval cavity? Can bugs get to your brain via your nose?

If you can't feel anything in your nose, it is likely that the bug didn't go in...but if it was so small (you didn't say anything about the size) the human nasal passage is "designed" to deal with all kinds of dust and particle matter being "sucked in' by breathing.

Connection to the brain?  Think not - other than oxygen going through your nose and going to your lungs will transfer to your blood stream and thus to the brain and all other organs in your body.  But oxygen is a molecule and is much-much-much----- smaller than any bug you can see.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I spent around 5 minutes trying to sneeze it out. It was really bothering me, so I ran to get our neti pot and used a saline solution coming from the other nostril to flush it out. Sure enough, the bug came out and I could see it in the sink. I felt so much better afterwards... just a suggestion for those who are bothered by a fly. A net pot is great to have on hand for bad colds anyway. :)

Were do you get them at and how much are they not pot
Hello, Ahartbarbara.  Som neti pots are very common these days.  They are available almost anywhere such as drug stores or super stores and definitely online which might be your best bet right now.  Amazon, Walmart or whatever online shopper you use.  Here's an article on using them.  It states it is in the allergy area of the site but you can use a neti pot for any issues you have surrounding your nasal passage and sinuses.  https://www.webmd.com/allergies/neti-pots#1

Hey guys, no need to worry. Your nasal canal is not exactly connected to your brain, so anything you are feeling/experiencing is due to the placebo effect (thinking something is up in there). A bug would most likely end up in your sinuses or stomach if inhaled, in which case, you can trust your body's pH system to handle with the little *******. Good day.

Thanks man, this is reassuring ! The same happened to me 5 minutes ago... And I was thinking the same, that the mucus in my respiratory system would cause the insect to get stuck and die slowly, avenging me somewhat. Then my body would kind of digest it and get rid of it. Still it's not cool, I hate insects and this was a life time phobia come true :(
Ok I don't think anyone will reply but I'm so glad someone said something my mind is going none stop I've gust recently had a gnat fly up my nose idk if it came back out or not I'm worried about the possibility of maggots in my sinuses Google does nothing to reassure me about anything instead it just makes me more paranoid....what are the chances and how would I know this was like 4 days ago btw

Same to me. It also happened to me twice! I'm having nonstop cold and cough this past few weeks. And fever & headache sometimes. I don't know if this is related to the insect that got into my nose. I'm very worried. :(

Same thing happened to me about a week ago, i was at the colton swap meet and a bug (i dont know what kind) flew in my nose, i blew out immediately but nothing happened. A few minutes later it started bleeding (slightly). Now i have a little bump in my lower armpit and it hurts. Could it be the bug ? Or even the bug layed eggs ? Am i in danger ? Help !

Same thing happened to me - I tried to blow it out but nothing came out, so I squeezed together my nostril up high where I could feel it to at least kill it if it was in there.  A week later I have an absess in that same spot and have to get antibiotics to clear it up.  I think the dead drain fly caused the infection.

I was walking and something came into my nose and tickled I tried to blow my nose and nothing came out, now minutes later the left part of my head is hurting. I feel like something came in my nose and is in my forehead, it sounds weird but that's the best way I can describe what I feel. Could I be in danger?
