I am a vocal performer with CT Scans indicating 50+% mucous retention/blockage of
sinuses, including Sphenoid sinus. No headaches or runny nose but sensation of congestion
for about 6 months and scans were the only thing that revealed blockage. As an actor I've
followed all the usual ENT protocols/advice throughout my career - alot of water, guaifenisin ..
I also still do allergy shots for dust, some ragweed & tree.. use flonase daily.. been through
several rounds of oral cort-steroids & antibiotics yet after 6 months would suspect these aren't
breaking up and getting rid of the impacted mucus. I want to reverse this and do not want to
mess with surgery - definitely not before exhausting every possible natural approach.....
This led me to the 'flip-turn' sinus flush discussed extensively on a Journal on this site. I've
done the NeilMed sinus rinse regularly but it doesn't get to the Sphenoid sinus so i tried this
enhanced flip version a few times this past week.
When I get to the point of filling nostrils with saline solution with the head back far enough, I
feel the liquid reaching my ears - similar to what you experience swimming but of course in this
case it's from the "inside-out" -- my ears do varying degrees of popping - and i feel pressure shifts
like with elevation - as the solution is moving... and when gently blowing the nose sometimes....
I just wonder if this is normal - and okay to keep doing. The ear feels blocked for awhile after two or
three repetitions... and left ear tends to feel more closed or full - but hopefully it's fully opening up
again during the course of the day... I hate to not be able to do this technique, because so far it's
the only thing i've found that is said to 'get' to the sphenoid sinus area.... vs. just the standing method
of nasal rinse with the Neil Med bottle. Really would appreciate any advice or other suggestions to try.
Thanks very much!
Mike
