Pain in neck possible ear infection?

Hello guys

I recently went on holiday (vacation) whilst swimming in the pool I remember a sort of pain in my ear as I went too deep in the bottom of the pool. Anyways mid way through the holiday I had pain on the right side of my neck and a little in my ear as the holiday progressed the pain was less apparent. The pain was not chronic but more of a nuisance like a muscle ache in the neck and a feeling of a clogged ear. Now somewhat 3 weeks after the holiday I have had the same feelings in ear and neck near enough everyday since. They are not excruciating but as I say they just feel as a muscle ache. The 'ache' is more apparent when I lay down at night to go to sleep it feels like the ache gets worse as I am lay down rather than stood up.

Does the problem in the neck and clogged ear sound linked to a possible ear infection from swimming? I have had them in the past from holidays although the pain has been more obvious with past ear infections
Any help on this matter will be much appreciated

I have been taking a course of amoxicillin for this ear infection. They seem to be working as symptoms are progressively going away but I am getting very light headed and dizzy off them. Is it the amoxicillin doing this ? I am taking 3 a day

Hi, good to see the cause for your symptoms has been detected and that you are feeling better. It could be an external ear infection, it is referred to as otitis externa. The infecting agents are bacteria, fungi and viral. Bacterial infections need antibiotics and fungal antifungal agents. Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Ensure to finish your antibiotic course and follow up with your doctor. Take care.

Just incase anyone stumbles across this post and has the same symptoms I went to the doctors yesterday and he is happy to say it is an ear infection he had a look and said that there was a small amount of build up and taken a swab to get tested. He has given me a course of antibiotics and it does seem to be working as last night lay down I hardly felt anything and today also seems to be an improvement
