hmmm...if she's been a tremendous amount of stress lately...and maybe even experienced an anxiety attack for the first time, Trialman may be onto something.  I say that because I'm experiencing the same thing.  Always considered myself to be calm and cool.  But at age 35, I finally experienced an anxiety attack for the first time a few months ago.  Went to a doctor, psychiatist and accupuncturist/natureopathic doc.  all said that at some point, the body can't take anymore stress and it begins to "let you know" in new ways.  Besides my anxiety attack, I noticed that it became increasingly tense around my neck, like there's something blocking my throat.  It's never difficult to swallow food or drink...just difficult at times to swallow when one normally swallows saliva.  It was the natureopathic doc that also alerted me to a condition in Chinese Medicine known as "Plum Pit Chi"  Something like that.  It's a feeling like there's a "plum" or something like it in the back of your throat.  She says that stress in some people often shows up in the neck area.  I'm getting ready to get acupuncture treatments for this and I'll let you know how it goes.

My ex-mother-in law had the same situation a few yrs ago, they diagnosed her with panic, anxiety disorder, even though she appeared to be a really laided back calm person, she worried alot. They prescribed her alprazloam (xanax) that she takes  0.5mg in the morning, then the same amount again in the evening, sometimes if alot is going on, they tell her to take one around noon. Hope this helps you!
