What can cause vertigo, back of head pain, sore/ringing ears?

About two years ago, I was rear-ended in my car (minor accident with some whiplash), approximately one year later (could be completely unrelated from accident), I started having intense dizziness/vertigo and back of head pain/aches that migrates to frontal head pain, sometimes stabbing pains in ears, sometimes ringing too.  I had an MRI and CAT Scan of both Head and Sinuses.  Everything was fine, but I was found at that time to have fluid in my sinuses and was then sent to see an ENT and Neurologist.  First saw the ENT who put me on Levaquin which didn't seam to improve my symptoms much and then Prednisone, really no improvement.  I started receiving allergy shots for Ragweed and Grass.  Day of my first shot I went to ER for chest pains and difficulty breathing, was told I probably have asthma and was given an inhaler.  After pulmonary function tests, an Eco-cardio gram, blood work, thyroid tests, x-rays of my chest, and an upper GI all results came back fine but I did have very slight upper GI problems.  I then saw a Neurologist who told me that my headaches had to be from the car accident, since I had no prior history and then sent me to a Chiropractor and told me to establish an exercise routine with stretching.  I started taking yoga.  Still had headaches.  Because, there was still fluid in my sinuses, I was also given more antibiotics from my PCP this time, which didn't help much.  My ENT then did sinus surgery.  Two months after surgery, I was put on Amoxicillian for three weeks because my new CT scan of sinuses had some fluid.  While on Amoxicillian this time, I felt pretty well.  Almost functionable.  After the three weeks of Amoxicillian were up, dizziness has come back with headaches in back of head, and the ringing started in my ears today. Meclizine and Ibuprofen don't help much either. Can I say that I'm beyond frustrated!

My daughter had swimmers ear 3 yrs. ago, then followed with an ear infection.  We treated her with antibiotics and the ear infection was gone.  However, since then every 2 months 'TOO' the day she gets vertigo right when she wakes up in the morning-sensitive to light, vomitting, dizzy etc.  This lasts a couple hours then will go away until she goes to sleep again.  The only treatment we have found was giving her allergy medication -Zyrtec/Claritin for 3 days then she will not have anymore vertigo until 2 months has gone!  We had her tested and she has LOTS of outdoor/indoor allergies.  We also taken her to an ENT- her hearing test was great, just a little ear wax in the right ear and then they dx her with Menniers Disease!  I feel this is an inner ear/ allergy-sinus problem.  Her nasal cavities are always swollen-says the dr.'s and she gets a few sinus infections per year.  I don't want to keep treating the symptoms with allergy medication .  We want to find the cause!
Please help.

I am a 23 year old female, and I have just recently started having minor headaches every few days..and then just yesterday I began having this pressure/pain in the lower back of head on the left side. I didnt even do anything that could have caused it, at least not to my knowledge anyway. So I'm just wondering what it could be? It also hurts when I turn my head to the left. My jaw was hurting a little bit also. I'm just worried because I have just recently had some things going on the with left side of my body only..I have white dot syndrom MEWDS in my left eye that thank God seems to be going away! But also..my left leg/calf seems swollen, its a little bigger than my right..I went & had a doppler study done on my left leg and everything looked fine they said..but it's still a little swollen. I dont know, I know there's a lot that I'm rambling on about, it's just that I get very nervous about my health and when I feel that something's wrong. And I just can't imagine what the pain in bacl of my head could be..or if everything could be related somehow?? please, if you have any suggestions or answers for me I would greatly appreciate it!!

Your first problem is getting the sinus surgery.  I got it 9 years ago and my sinus will never heal.  ENTs are surgeons they want to cut and make money.  I had to tell mine, no surgery ever again.

Your problem sounds like sinusitis.  You need to go on Avelox for a prolonged period of time, 4 to 6 weeks.  Get a netti pot a rinse 2x a day with saline.  Use 1/2 tsp trader joe sea salt and 2 cups distilled or filtered water.  Heat to body temp and run one cup per nostril.

Also ask your doctor about using a steroid/fungus wash.  There are many infections now being related to fungus in the sinus cavity.  The best way I have found to administer the wash is to lie on the bed with my head hanging over.  It is kind of like water boarding but it does get the medication everywhere, especially the frontal and ethmoid sinus.

Since Dec,08 I had come down with ringing in the ears,Hyperacusis and soreness on my head that travels from front to back.I also get sharp pains in the ears at times.Neck stiffness is commom as well.I have gone to e.n.t. doctors.chiropractors, neurologist and acupuncture. No one even wanted to test me in any way other than some hearing tests and an M.R.I.(concluded nothing).Life has been tough when it seems that there are no good well informed med.professionals that REALLY care!
