hyoid problem?

Just been reading the thread on this bone thing, heres my symptoms, constant sore throat and swelling left inside of throat tonsil area, had a very bad trapped neck nerve a while back too, could this be a problem with the hyoid bone?
My throat feeling is like something is pulling on the base of my tongue, feels like a muscle?
Im still waiting for an appointment for scope, seen several docs who didnt seem concerned and denist couldnt find anything wrong, ENT could see swelling though!
This has been going on for 10mths now! and is really getting me down.
Any help please!

Well, best of luck to you.  I will just have to assume that he has good reason to biopsy the back of your tongue (we normally don't biopsy for thrush).  In the meantime, you can easily test the possibility of this being severe reflux.  Medicines like Prilosec and Prevacid are over the counter now (in the US anyway) and are the mainstays of treatment for reflux.  You could start yourself on twice per day therapy and see if your symptoms improve (keep in mind that it can take several weeks to several months in some cases).

Hi, he wants me to have an endosocmy, and take a biopsy from back of my tongue, I have seen ENT specialist but had to pay private so only had initial consultation with him, I am now refered back to rthe NHS so I suppose that is why he didnt treat me?
He said the thrush was right at the back of my tongue.
As I said tho I do get symptoms of acid reflux and he thought that may be the problem, that acid was burning my throat and thats why its constantly sore, or maybe I have reflux and combined with sore nose is making my symptoms worse?
I just hope the appointment comes through soon! a person can only stand so much of a sore throat!!!!
Thanks

Well clearly your problem is not simple and you would be best served by seeing the ENT specialist in person.  What "scope" does your doctor want you to have (beyond the one he already did)?  Additionally, if he diagnosed you with an infection in the nose and thrush (in the throat?), why did he not treat?  Perhaps these are indeed the source of your problems and it would seem logical to attack them...

Hi there,
Have seen several docs about my throat soreness and 2 dentists, they didnt seem overly concerned about it, so I paid private to see ENT he said it could be acid reflux but wants me to have a scope to make sure that its nothing else, he did put camera up my nose and said I have infection in my nostril and thrush, so I have no treatment as yet.
I have had a real bad cold sore inside my nostril for ages that Im ashamed to say I picked at for a long while, I wonder if by doing that its caused some infection in my throat too?
I have had two courses of antibiotics which did make the soreness  nearly go away for a while, but docs wont give me anymore for obvious reasons
I do have some symptoms of reflux and also my left nostril "runs" quite a bit.
Im obviously clutching at straws now! Its really scaring me!
Thanks.

I see that there is this long, old topic thread on the hyoid bone too (haven't had the desire to read through it).  There is absolutely no evidence out there that the hyoid bone can be a source of chronic problems (assuming that it hasn't been fractured, I suppose).  I think that because the hyoid bone is in the area where people are having symptoms, they are making a "guilt by association" conclusion.  Having said that, sometimes we can't find the source of someone's pain.  Even though that is probably a much less satisfying conclusion, it at least doesn't conjure up an unsupported diagnosis.  Did your ENT doctor recommend any treatment or give you a diagnosis?

You are absolutely wrong!!!! Look up the studies of dislocation of hyoid bone talk to dr.burke at UCLA ! To simplify belittle 700 + comments as the chatter of delusional people you should read the comments and understand that the styloid ligaments that hold the hyoid into place can be damaged by injury or by hyper mobility condition's!! I have created scans and video showing my superior horn of hyoid bone protruding into my pharyngeal wall causing intense pain and horrible choking sensation ! So don't tell people there's no evidence nearly 1000 people describing something IS in facts evidence.
