Hi, no i haven't had the ph recording done...have not had the esophgeal manometry done either. I have pretty much givien up hope with the doctors where i live. they want me to keep with nexium and zantac and i have a follow up appt. agian in 3 weeks with my primary doctor.ummm....my doctor wants me to continue thinking about the feeding tube to be put into me to give my throat complete rest with not swallowing nothing for a while. You know all of this is so confusing to me because all of what i am experiencing was a result of an anaphalactic allergic reaction to hair dye!!!!! then all of this! before june 11th of this year i was a healthy 25 year old on no medications!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously don't know what to do. My best guess is uc davis...will see...only time will tell? thank you alot for your help :)

Hi,

I really feel sorry for you. Being in a country like US where there is access to the best investigative procedures, you are being neglected by those doctors. I pity you. Have you got esophageal manometry and acid Ph recording done?

Hi,

Sorry! For the delayed response. I would also suggest you to meet a neurologist as well as a gastro-enterologist. It is more of a neurological cause coupled with GERD.

Thank you for the offer, I will definitely try to help you out and do my best to get you relieved you of this problem.

Hi,
Well i have already had a modiefied barium swallow done...showed deep penetration going in to the vocal cords...not aspirating yet! but right on the line of doing so and it showed delayed swallowing patterns. so i dont know if that could be from the esophageal spasms i'm having thats making my swallowing patterns delayed? Or is it the LPR or all of the above?....on top of all this i'm now going through what seems to be severe pain in my gall bladder and i have been told that if you rapidly lose weight or if your not taking in enough calories you can have gall bladder spasms? i have seen the doctor for it but he told me himself he is just an ER doc and i'm having alot of problems for being only 26 years old and he doesnt have the experience in the things i'm going through to treat me! he said his opinon is that a virus is attacking my body, but he just told me to go back to my primary doc....they keep sending me back and fourth... so i did some research and there is a doctor at UC DAVIS in sacramento im hoping to get into see in like a month or two?...if you have any ideas at all please share :) thank you

Hi,

It seems you are having DES (diffuse esophageal spasms), as most of the features are correlating with this condition. As I had mentioned in my previous comments you do have LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux), this is a condition secondary to acid reflux disease.

Request your gaestroenterologist to do a barium swallow, if your problem is related to DES condition you can see it in the x-ray. Also request for an esophageal manometry that helps in finding the pressure inside the esophagus.

Continue the medicines which you are taking. Please keep me informed about this.

I have been going through difficulty swallowing  it feels like things get stuck going down and when they do go down they just kinda stay there like a delayed swallowing pattern, also burning throat dry cough, lost 40 pounds in 6 weeks from not being able to eat much since i feel like i'm choking, lump in throat, SHORT OF BREATH constantly, belching ect...... well i was actually hospitalized due to my dysphgia on 7/31/10 MRI normal blood test normal CAT SCAN normal modiefied barium swallow showed deep penetration into vestible vocal cord? so i'm not quite aspirating but almost...then i had a upper endoscopy where they take a tube go down your throat and into your gut...not fun! but anyway that showed esophageal spasms and gastritis...however i'm still not able to eat throat feels tight lump in throat burning ect...so went to an ENT where i was recently diagnosed with LPR? as of right now i'm surviving off of ensures water and maybe yogurt...Oh and nexium did nothing for me ....maybe i should try a diffrent PPI ? i'm taking zantac now seems to help some what, but still cant eat solids as of yet. My ENT suggested PROBIOTICS and DIGESTIVE ENZYMES instead of taking the PPI's cause its not as harmful to the body. Is there anyone out there who is going through what i'm going through? does anyone know abpout LPR and the digestive enzymes? thanks in advance :) Britney

Hi,

The throat discomfort is because of acid reflux, this happens when the acid comes up into the throat and cause inflammation leading to the swelling in that region. This in turn causes throat discomfort and also difficulty in swallowing. Try taking proton pump inhibitors (such as Esomeprazole), metochlopramide and drink plenty of water. Also avoid coffee, tea, alcohol, stress and smoking.

What did they report after performing the test?

I have had that same feeling for a month now.. along with a dry cough. I'm not sure what causes it but its annoying to say the least. I have been unable to swallow solids for a month now lost 22 pounds and just finally had an upper endoscopy yesterday morning. He took 3 biopsys and i get the results on tuesday so i will post an update. btw are you still able to swallow? If i were you i would make an ENT appt. as soon as possible! try and keep drinking plenty of water.. if you cant swallow solids like me buy some Ensure its a complete nutrition drink. best of luck!

Hi,

Since how many days do you have this problem?
Do you have any acid reflux disease?
Recurrent sore throat, nasal allergy if any?
