vertigo worse in cold weather?

I've noticed that my vertigo is much worse since last Friday when the temperature dropped and is now only in the 40s.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Check  if the main cause is any of these. Self experience. Vertigo is caused by not enough moist air going into lungs. That is too dry air, happening all year round, winter and summer. Use a humidifier continuously in each room and an electric fan to move air around and an exhaust fan or open a window , a quarter. Ensure cross centilation. Air conditioning helps a lot in summer but should provide humidity which some do not provide. Question is again to stop AC in winter. So a humidifier is best all year.
----  Vertigo is caused also by eating raw fruit, half cooked food, meat, chicken, fish, etc. which put digestive system at risk. Doctors know it but there is no evidence except vomit, so they tell patients who ignore. Vertigo starts about 2 hours after eating food when it has left stomach and gone to intestine.
The stomach tried to put acid to digest it but could not fully digest, so passed on to intestine, where some portion is absorbed in blood and vertigo starts. It lasts for 3, 4, 5 hours, after which food leaves small to big intestine. Taking a tablet for dizziness helps. Lie down on bed or floor, better, because of risk of fall and bones breaking. Body tries to vomit out but can not if food reached farther than stomach. Best is go to sleep. Vertigo goes after 5 to 6 hours of sleep. Conclusion is do not eat raw apples and fruits available in markets. Do not eat uncooked or half cooked food including meat, chicken, chips, salty fries, sour milk etc. Human digestive system is not constructed for such things. But mistakes happen after 1 or 2 months when above 2 or more foods are eaten together. Learn and remember to tell yourself. A child would automatically taste above foods but not eat more, but adults would go on eating with mind somewhere else.

Kat,
There are many reasons for vertigo.  Your statement is a bit confusing, Is it the cure for you or is it just a cure for some?  The cure for me is surgery where the brain has to me physically moved to get to the semicircular canal in the inner ear.  It took not just an ENT but a specialist in the field to find this. And many with this problem are misdiagnosed and go through years of treatment that has nothing to do with their condition.  So, don't rely on a Dr with no expertise but yet is going to put chemicals in you that may do more harm than good, Go to a specialist who could then send you to someone who is even more specialized to diagnose you properly.

Can you check your food eating. No raw apples, fruits. No half cooked or roasted food, meat, chicken, fish, unboiled milk. No too salty. Eat fully cooked things and fully ripened fruits, for human digestive system. Avoid alcohol and cigarettes and check. ----Avoid too dry air all year round. Difficult to breathe. Use a humidifier and a fan to move air, in each room. Tryout and see.

Hello. Recently after 2 years of suffering with debilitating "balance issues" I found an answer. It all started after I had a Tetanus and Flu Vaccine in a two week period. I had severe weakness, muscle spasms and disequilibrium. I was saw multiple Neurologists at a large University Hospital. I was diagnosed with MS to begin with. No one considered the vaccines as a potential cause of the problems. I developed Pernicious Anemia during this time and was told that this was the cause. Then, I started improving with steroid treatment and B12. It was conculded that I had some type of Post-Viral Syndrome from the Vaccines. But, the balance issue continued. When the weather became cold this winter and it was windy out, I noticed that my balance problem became much worse. I went on my own to a ENT. He did an extensive balance study and concluded that I have a lesion on my vestibular nerve caused by, most likely, the Flu vaccine. He is treating me with cawthorne exercises, a low dose diuretic, and an antihistamine. It is a miracle. I feel so much better. Just knowing the answer has made an incredible change in my overall well being. He told me that the damage is there for ever and I can control it by changing the way my brain responds to environmental changes. Its amazing. Hope this helps.

I am sorry you will find it difficult to get a satisfying answer. We don't know enough about vertigo as yet. The departure and descend can affect the middle ear pressure, and depending on the cause of your vertigo, it may or may or may not affect the same.

What did your consultant say? What was his/their conclusion after the exam and investigations? Were you diagnosed to have 'mal de'barquement syndrome'? This started after a cruise?

You have asked about 'chemical sensitivity'. Coupling this with your doctor noting 'sensitivity' in the nasal tissue, I presume you are asking about allergic sensitivity. Yes, allergy is known to cause vertigo.

Hope this helps.

Best,

TA

Re: disembarking syndrome>

The correct name is 'mal de debarkment syndrome" or 'mal debarqment syndrome'.

It is described as 'land sickness' after being in the sea (on a cruise) for a while. A rare condition. This usually resolves in a couple of days, but may last about 6 mths. I understand it has also been reported after airplane travel as well. But it is a rare condition.

Best,

TA

I have visited every Tom, **** and harry in Southern Maine and undergone a large amount of tests, they don't give me any direct answer, I did go see my doc in Kennebunk and she says I have quite a bunch of sensitivities and my nasal tissue is inflamed and in addition to that that can affect the eustacian tubes and cause slight dizziness, I think my stress in life and anxiety issue makes that problem worse and oh well. If any medical professions want to spend a little time with me and not toss me arround to figure out something for 6 years and find the things that make me sensitive it would be cool. Have a good day :) I also saw on Mystery Diagnosis that a woman suffered similar symptoms as me and went to see multiple docs and when she finally was refered to the proper balance specialist, she was diagnosed with a rare, disembarking syndrome or something like that, there is no cure, the symptoms are always with you and they are currently researching ways to treat it. I wonder if that is it, but on another note I am going on in my days and making the best of everything.

I have had persistent vertigo ever since 3 days after my gall bladder surgery about 7 years ago, it is worse when it gets colder and I agree with the cold fronts that go through and for me its worse at certian times of the month as well. I always feel like I am on a boat and it bothers me most when I am doing nothing and the worse part of it is no one knows how I feel and they really don't care... :( All the docs say I am a healthy woman but I still believe that there is something someone can do do help with my problem.... If there is anyone that really knows about this and is willing to take this seriously please get back to me because I would like to know how it feels to be normal again for at least a day.... Thank You

There is this reference that show a worsening in this patient's vertigo with a change in weather due to change in atmospheric pressure, this is something that can happen when a cold front comes in.
