Throat feel scratchy and sore, and flu symptoms

Mild yet a persistent sore throat, and more importantly fleeting flu symptoms- body aches, feverish, feeling very lethargic and tired and has been going on for about 2 weeks.Mild swollen sensation of area below jaws though doesnt appear visually.

Went to a doc - prescribed general meds plus Amox...(which is i guess for strep throat)..but just worried does any throat infection last so long even wi/o medicines? I have not had intense symptoms but they have been present for about 3 weeks now..Could this be Mono? I have not had any particular exposure that I can recount...is it tough to find out how you get infected with Mono? Any other possibilities?

Well I plan to visit again, its been 3 weeks but the symptoms have been more or less the same..its getting worrisome. I used to have tonsilitis in childhood never had in last 10 years.

How long does a throat infection usually last? I have often heard not more than a week. My Blood test(cbc) which the ent asked for came out quite normal...the neutrophils is a bit on the higher( about 6960- 80%)- is it abnormal? Need to meet teh doc again..my symptoms have been weird..my thrroat feels a strange sense of discomfort, neck and below jaws discomfort..they feel swollen..but they arent..and sporadic body ache which comes and goes almost everyday..

I shall check with my doc again but anything else should stress on or possibilities of?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
A complete ENT examination is important for detecting the exact cause of your symptoms. Infections by viruses and bacteria are common causes of sore throat. Tonsillitis, infections in the nose and sinuses also can cause sore throats. If you are doubtful about mono discuss it with your treating doctor. A complete medical history, physical examination and blood tests like complete blood counts and monospot test may help in diagnosis. Increase your liquid intake. Gargle with warm salt water several times daily and taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as may help. See an ENT specialist. Keep me posted.
Best luck and regards!
