Tightness in my throat, like a rubber band around my neck.

I have been researching this because 8 weeks ago I had a bad cold and also got this feeling in my throat like a rubber band around my neck. It almost feels like there is a quarter sitting on the hollow spot under my Adams apple. I'm always clearing my throat. I had a positive Epstein bar about 6 months ago. It is worse when I lay down.  I also have pain in the back of my neck and at the base of my skull. It feels like I am choking but I an not having problems breathing. So strange. The ER doctor looked at me like I was crazy and said you are fine.

There is a strong possibility of viral infection or an allergy which resulting in pain. Thing is that when you get in contact with the allergens you feeling this pain. I would suggest please avoid foods containing vitamin c as it triggers viruses' action. I would suggest you to take the second option and consult with an experienced ENT to get a complete diagnosis.

Hm.  That is an odd response from a doctor.  I've never had one minimize my issues like that.  I would try a new doctor.  There is something called Globus Sensation.  It is that lump feeling in throat such as you describe.  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320245.php  Lots of different things can cause that. Things like pharyngitis, tonsillitis, even gerd.  But stress can as well.  Are you sure this wasn't what the doctor was referring to?  Stress and Anxiety are on the lists of causes to this sensation.  in which case, theory would go if you treat the anxiety, that should get better.  But regardless, I think you need to talk to another doctor who will give you more time and work with you to help you recover.
