Diuretic abuse

I had abused diuretics for about a year.  160 mgs Lasix per day, obtained online without a prescription.  Several days ago (4), I gave them up, cold turkey.  The rebound edema is worse than I ever would have dreamed, and getting even worse by the day.  Is this medically dangerous?  How long will it last?  Is there anything I can do (drink lots of fluids, e.g.) to provide relief?  I am too ashamed to ask my doctor.  Thank you for your help.

This happened to me too! I stopped the diuretic and put on 15lbs. in few days of water. I never had this much water me when I was put on diuretics. It has been weeks and the water is not coming off no matter what I do. Did you loose your rebound edema and if so, how long? How much did you put on and loose? This is scary!

Hi!
Yes, it is possible to have rebound edema once you stop lasix cold turkey. This can be treated in two ways. Either restart lasix and slowly taper the dose over weeks. OR start a low sodium diet ( increase table salt in your diet judiciously). However, doing either of this on your own can be dangerous. So, please consult a doctor for this. Take care!
