7 cm cyst 3 weeks after laparoscopy

Hello all,
From what I understand cysts are rather common with endometriosis.  My question/point is I had a Laparoscopy to remove all the endo on 3/29/10.  I obtained a copy of the operative report which clearly state my ovaries and tues were clear of endometriosis and cyst.

5 days after the surgery starting complaining of pain again.  It kept getting worse.  The day before yesterday it was so bad I had to go to the ER.

After many hours there, I have an endovaginal untrasoud where they found an almost 7 cm simle cyst.  How can a cyst get that big so quickly given that my ovaries were 100% less then 3 weeks before.  Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

I'm seeing my ob/gyn tomorrow.  I really can't deal with this anymore.  I'm in constant pain, which is making me cranky and depressed... my sex life is going down the drain.  I feel bad for my fiance.  They gave me strong pain meds in the ER, but it's not like I can go to work on those.

Looking forward to your response

i had a lap on july 30th which was a friday. the next monday i went to the dr because the meds weren't working and i developed such a bad lower back pain that i couldn't move (my boyfriend had to help me do everything!). the dr did an ultrasound and everything was clear and looked good.  2 weeks later i went back because i had pain on my right side like before the lap except 10 times worse! we did another ultrasound and i have a cyst that was not there just 2 weeks prior! i'm so confused because before the lap i didn't even have a cyst just endometriosis, and 2 weeks prior everything was clear!  it hurts so bad, the dr put me on vicodin es and that doesn't work, it just eases the pain a little bit. i'm scared because i didn't think a cyst could develop in such a short amount of time, and i have NEVER had a cyst before! i'm going back in a week to see if it got smaller and if it didn't then i'm not sure what we're going to do.

Oh Geez, I had surgery 5 weeks ago to remove 5cm endo cyst, and today I had an ultra sound because I have weird bladder and cramping.  I know she sees something.. now I am scared.  How can you go for surgery everything goes well and then 5 weeks later you have pain again!!!

Ohhhh my!!!!!!  That's a huge cyst!!!!!
Lupron will most likely shrink the cyst... it will probably be gone in a couple of months.
Not everyone has a bad experience with Lupron.  A lot of women can tolorate it.
Let me know how your ultrasound goes tomorrow.  I had my ultrasound yesterday and the cyst is totally gone :)  I've been taking norethindrone and penstol.
Best of luck!!!  Keep me posted

I went in for an ultrasound Dec. 09 after some severe cramping (labor-like) and they found a 5cm cyst.  Three months later the cyst was 14cm and I had a vertical c-section to remove the cyst, left ovary and tube.  Within two months my stomach had grown back to the 4-5month pregnant size. Last week I had another ultrasound that is showing a 17cm cyst or fluid sac of sorts (scar tissue/hematoma?).  Not sure but I am going for a CT scan in two days.  After the initial ultrasound results, I have been put on Lupron and am very upset about this but feel I have no option. They don't want to operate as they say it is too risky at the moment. Hoping the drugs will shrink the cyst. Not looking forward to side effects and not knowing if this will work is scary.

Hello ladies,
It is possible to have cyst and no endometriosis.  I sadly have endometriomas... caused by endometriosis.
My options are very limited for treatment; can't take b/c due to severy migranes, tried Lupron with "take back" but I had horrible side effects from it and only did it for a month.  Next step was to do the lap.  Which I had done on 3/29/10.  I had endometriosis behind my uterus - which was all removed.  According to doc ovaries and tubes were totally clear.  Needless to say I was in SHOCK to find out I had an almost 7cm cyst less then 3 weeks after the laparoscopy.  Saw my doc about 3 weeks ago.  We're running out of options.  I'm on nerothindrone 250mg to stop me from ovulating so that I don't get more cysts.  Don't know if the 7 cm one is gone... maybe it's been slowly draning.  In any event, I'm still in pain with the new meds.  I was prescribed Penstol to help with the pain.  I've been having to take Penstol at least once a day, which mean nerothindrone is not doing its job.  Which is very bad news for me!!!  The next option is a oopherectamy (removal of both ovaries).  I don't know what to do... I'm only 28 and removing my ovaries will send me into manopause, I'm assuming I'll have to take hormone replacement therapy, etc, etc.  I'm seing the doc again in less then a week.  I have sooooooooooooo many questions I've already started writing them down.
We do hear a lot of "i don't know" or "it depends" from our doctors.  Every womans' body reacts differently to treatments, surgery etc.
Sorry for the long post, but the closer it gets to seeing my doctor the more nervous I'm getting as I know what the next step is.  I don't want children... I'm mainly concearned with what removing my ovaries will do to my body.
Anyway ladies, I will keep you posted.

I had my second lap surgery in January to remove a 3.5cm cyst on my right fallopian tube that would not go away or shrink in size after several months. My doctor was also expecting to see everything covered in Endometriosis. I guess once he got in there he could not see any endometriosis and said that there were no signs or scaring of previous. How does that make sense? So he was able to drain the cyst and said everything else looked good. It was about a week later I ended up in the ER because I was in so much pain and the doc wrote the wrong year on the prescription. So they got me into a room really quick and did an internal ultrasound and found that I had over a 5cm cyst. I asked how does this happen. I just had surgery a week ago and there was nothing there and now I have this large cyst. He could not give me an answer which made me upset. Ever since then I have had more cysts and right now I have a 3.5cm cyst on the right ovary and a 2.5cm cyst on the left ovary. It's so frustrating. I wish you the best of luck and I hope things turn around for you soon. Take care

Hey there!
It is uncanny how similar our situations really are!

I think it must of spread, and im not sure about cysts I guess ill find out on Wednesday the outcome.. im getting a full look over.

I finally got stronger medication but its not working.. so Im lost.. Im guess its better than nothing, but im still in pain, stabbing, aching, throbbing etc.

Im nto sure how old you are but I'm 20 this year and the though of losing my ovaries well that would crush me (I really want to be a parent). I do hope you know though, removing your ovaries will stop the endo shedding each month (hopfully) but it wont stop it growing.. Endo can return even after a full hyst...It sheds with your menstrual cycle however it grows for god knows what reason... I guess if they knew we'd have a cure!

I dont know if you knew this but I thought I should tell you.
Im getting slowly worse, besides the lap I've been on every treatment known to man pretty much.. all thats left is exicsion surgery and thats not garuanteed either, Endo can come back then.

Feel free to email me:
tate.***@**** for any questions or for more of a chat if you want :) happy to chat :)
Hope you're going better!

It's amazing how similar our situations are.
I went back to the ob/gyn.  She was extremelly surprised that I managed to grow a cyst that big in less then 3 weeks.  Even though it's a "simple" cyst - meaning filled with liquid - she's sure it has to do with the endo.
As far as the pain being worse now then before, she said that it's possible the endo came back when I ovulated at a more aggressive speed.
So now.... I've been taking nerothindrone daily to stop me from ovulating.  doc wants to wait and see if the cyst goes away on its own.  I'm seeing her again in 3 weeks.  If the nerothindrone doesn't do the job, I'm having both ovaries removed.... I just can't deal anymore.
This past Sunday I was at a social event and literally had to be carried out with horrible, stabbing cramps.  Called the doc on Monday.  She wanted to give  me norcotics until I went to see her but said I couldn't drive... HELLO!!!!!!!!  I work for a living - I have a 45 minute commute and cannot afford to be drugged out at work.  So she called in this super duper strong and expensive antiflamatory, Ponstel - $400?!?!  Crazy!!!!  I do have to say it has helped wi the pain though.  The little pain I have now I think is related to the cyst and its size, not so much the endo.
I'm thinking that, just like me, the first time you ovulated after the lap, the endo came back.  It's so sad, but not uncommon :(  Why isn't there a cure???
I know removing my ovaries is sort of drastic, but my doc has no more options... we've tried everything from Lupron, to depot, lap, etc.  Nothing seems to work.
I'm up for the promotion of my life in September of this year - I cannot let this desiese stop that from happening, so if I have to have a partial hyst, so be it.
Sorry for the long story, but feels good to vent to people who understand.  My fiance is so caring and patient, but he doesn't really understand... no one does unless they suffer from it.
How are you doing lately?  Any better?  Have you tried any other treatments besides the lap?
My thoughts are with you!!!
Keep me posted
luv,
Lilia

Im in the exact same boat. Im still wondering what the hell is going on. I wont go to the ER because here, they give you a hit of something wait for it to wear off (in 5 hours or so) then send you home... to me thats pointless.

My pain has been worse since my Lap and Lasering and also as far as I know my overies minus the endo on them are fine (I thought they ruptured cysts in my laparoscopy but was mistaken).

Im going back to my professor next week - Im fed up like you. This was suppost to help me and instead im in more constant and more severe pain then before!

Im also upset, angry and down - they are suppost to HELP us!

In ANSWER: to your question - I am unsure, I know cysts can occur at any stage...but it seems odd for you to have gotten one after a lap. How did it go with your Obgyn?

Please let me know how you go/went!!
Thoughts are with you!
*hugs*

To clarify, endometriosis was confirmed and removed from my cul-de-sac (behind my uterus) on 3/29/10.  But no endo or cysts on tubes or ovaries.  How could a 7cm cyst have grown that fast?  Is that normal?
