I have been suffering with severe endometriosis since I was 16 years old.  It's been 6 or more years and I am still going through the same stuff. I am on progesterone (for almost a year) and it's stopping the menstrual cycle and stopping more endo from growing, which is what we want, but it's also causing so many horrible side effects! Like hair loss; weight gain; depression; hot flashes; etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Did anyone do anything different to help with their endometriosis? I am totally stuck on what to do!  I feel like it's surgery after surgery and we get no where...

Hi "ticked",
I'm not doing excision surgery. I had laperoscopy almost 2 years ago. My first surgery was in 2009 I believe. After that my gyno put me on birth control an we tried so many (None stopped my periods)  he wanted to stop my periods because the more you bleed, the more endo will grow. So we went back to have another surgery and after that he put me on progesterone (pill form) I've been on that for a little over a year. I hate it because its causing yucky side effects (hair loss. Hot flashes. Depression...) but its the only thing that's working. I tried gluten free diet and that worked and made me feel better but I stopped because I love chocolate lol!

Hi,
Thank you for commenting. It sounds like you had a relief with Yasmin. I'm on progesterone and that almost gives the same side effects as Yasmin and the only thing my doctor wants to stop is the periods because if you bleed then more endo will grow. Have you ever tried an IUD? I hear that helps with endo too and you don't get any side effects because it doesn't have to travel through your entire body to do Its job--instead it just goes in your uterus.

Hello!
I had endometriosis, cysts, tumor and blood thickening on my right ovary and and it was removed during laparoscopy 8 years ago. I had smaller problems with my left ovary, so after the lap and in the next 5 years I was on YASMIN pills for stopping the endo from growing. After these 5 years I had a punctuation done, because one of the cysts became bigger and after that I was on ZOLADEX shots for six months (in a condition of menopause - awful side effects!!!). After that I started with Yasmin again and stopped after one years in order to TTC. After I stopped with Yasmin, my endo condition became worse, the cysts were rapidly growing and the painful and awful periods are back. Now I have to go to another procedure (probably laparotomy, so I can continuie with TTC after that, with IVF).
I am telling you all of this because I want to tell you that my experience with Yasmin pills was very good! Lighter periods, painless, feeling more comfortable, no bloating etc. Also they kept the cysts and the endo as they are for many years, sometimes when I went to my gyno they were even smaller than the previous time... Sure there are side effects, but they are not so bad like the horrible side effects from some other medications of this type. In the first month, or two, you can feel pain in your breasts and light bleeding some days while taking them, but that will get to normal when the body adjusts to the new medications and those problems are not going to last longer than that. Also, in my case, I had headaches during my period, that was the only side effect that I experienced, but there weren't any stomach pains and bloating, so that was a big relief. And from the side effects that you mentioned ("Like hair loss; weight gain; depression; hot flashes; etc."), maybe weight gain/loss...
You should talk to your gyno about these pills, maybe they will be a solution for you too. When my gyno prescribed Yasmin to me he said that other medications of this type will make me a "granny" and Yasmin pills are different and with less side effects and very effective.
All the best!

Are you doing excision surgery?

Is it visanne that you are on?

I did 3 rounds of Lupron, 3 months of visanne and the rest of the 7 yrs on marvelon bcp continuously after my excision surgery. I feel a lot better.
