Questions about Lupron Depot

I've had Endometriosis since around 2001. I've had surgery and had one of my ovaries removed. It just started getting painful again. My doctor has suggested Lupron Depot.  I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went for you. I'm doing research on it before I agree to it.

Thank you everyone for your comments and stories. I have to leave work early today because I'm in so much pain.  I'm still waiting for the shot, the doctor said she ordered it but it had to get approved and it should be coming in soon.

I've heard so many horror stories and so many good ones about this Lupron. I'm rather scared. I'm hoping my story will be a good one.

I wish all of you lovely women luck with this horror!!!!

wanted to let you know how I was on Lupron. The night of the shot I thought I was dying.I couldn;t move and felt like I had the flu.I went to the ER and all they could find was that I had a reaction to the shot.so I had the shot again when it was time and the same thing happened. The dr said that some people react to things differently.I also had the creepy crawly feeling under my skin and hot flashes.Mood swings were terrible.I kept saying sorry for my moods. It was not fun and in the end it came back so we decided to start a family.7 years later I have had 2 boys and a hysterectomy.I am now looking for an endo specialist to help me.I may have found one 2 states away. That is my last resort as all the drs think that it has attacked my colon and gall bladder and the rest of me too.I really hope it works for you.Just remember all our bodies are different.many hugs to you.

Hello everyone, just want to share my story.  I have suffered with endo since I was 15 and now I'm 34 and still fighting this disease even after having a complete hysterectomy!  I had 3 laparoscopies to remove endo and lesions and took lupron for 6 months with no success.  Three years ago I had a partial colectomy to remove and endometrioma had grown through my large colon. Only seven months following that sugery, I had to undergo an emergency complete abdominal hysterectomy.  The endo was so persistant, not responding to any medical treatments. Now over two years since I had the hyster. I'm having abdominal and pelvic pain again and my doctor has recommended the lupron once again.  Eventhough I've gone through full menopause, there is a chance there is still some endo left.  Are you kidding me???

I wish all you women on here the best of luck getting treated for this debilitating disease!

hey,
i read your post about the lupron depot shot and i can only tell you about it from my experiences. i had my lap done on dec 2005. everything seemed fine until about 3 days after the surgery when my stomach started bloating.  5 years later it still is and i think it was from the lupron shot. my knees crack horrible when i bend down and then they go out so now i need to have x rays done of my knees. the hotflashes were horrible  and unbearable.nothing seemed to help at all. my mood swings were horrible also and was so0 irritable.the last time i had the shot which was aug 2009, i got my period horribley for the first 5 months and they lasted 2 weeks at a time. i was losing a lot of blood and was dizzy all the time

please do not take this as i believe along with many other people
that you will reget it

sincerley,

Thank you very much for your comment. I'm pretty sure it's going to turn me into a monster as well, it's a good thing my boyfriend is far away at the moment. I've heard a lot of good and bad things about Lupron. I honestly don't know what to do. I wish you lots of luck on having children. I've heard that having a baby also helps the Endo..maybe it will help you.

About your Lupron ? - I would tell him to be way more concerned about your mood swings than bone loss.  I have genetic issues in my back that would be made extreemly worse by any bone loss and with this drug it was the absolute least of my worries.  Lupron turned me into a monster!  I seriously considered divorcing my husband on a daily basis while I was on it and after 2 mos going off, I was perfectly fine.  I would really advise you do some intense research before taking a shot that lasts in your system 1-3mos (depending on what dose your dr has ordered).  Good Luck!

I was absolutely miserable on Lupron.  I would never try it again, but I also had extreem pain during my 3mos on the shot.  I would also never suggest to anyone that I knew, but it is totally up to you.  My endo is so deep that it just cannot be ablated and I will inevitably have a hysterectomy once my husband and I are done having children.  I turn 29 next week and we are trying for our 1st child after my lap done 1/6/10 & hope that we are successful sooner than later because my pain will continue to get worse.  I wish you luck!

I'm still waiting to get the shot. My doctor says she ordered it so I guess I have ot wait for it to come in.

My boyfriend is VERY concerned about the possible boneloss. He really doesn't want me to get this shot because he thinks I'm gonna turn into glass. No matter how many times I've told him that I'll be taking a pill that keeps that from happening and taking calcium he's still very worried.

I've read so many comments from women who have had this shot and no one has had bone problems after wards. I dunno what to do to make him feel better about this.

Hi there.  A little over a year ago I got an endometrioma removed together from adhesions due to endometriosis.  The doctor suggested the Lupron, the 3-month shot and for me it worked out pretty well.  I had some side effects like hot flashes, tiredness and a little headache in the evenings.  For me it worked out since I have been checked and there are no signs of endometriosis or endometriomas forming.  Now I am trying to get pregnant.

Remember that everyone is different and not everyone has the same side effects.  I have read of women here in the site who would never have the Lupron again and others, for whom it has worked.  Talk to your doctor and ask him about it.  In the Merck manual there is information on this if you want to check it out.

If you want to ask me anything else, I'll be glad to help out.

Best wishes,

Neta
