What Hormones after Lap are you on??

Hello dear Endocysta's! I've had my lap surgery last thursday to remove a chocolate cyst on my left ovary as well as clean up severe endo with an endo specialist surgeon. My next step at post-op appointment will be to get on hormone treatment to suppress endo. As far as I understand, that's the only treatment available. Has anyone tried anything different after treatment, like a holistic approach, and has it worked for you? And those of you on birth control, what's the name of the one you are using, what have you tried, what are your side effects, what should I watch out for? I've never been on any hormones, and I'm terrified of how my body will react. I'm reading horror stories of depression, huge weight gain, blood clots, hair loss etc. etc. I'm not sure which is worse, the side effects or endo coming back! (bald, fat and handicapped from a stroke but hey at least without endo right? super!). But since it seems to be my only option, I'm searching for the lesser evil. I've been prescribed Lo Loestrin, I haven't taken it yet, anyone have any experience with it? Any feedback and guidance will be much appreciated!
P.S. I should add, I'm taking the birth control for strictly suppression, not pain. Thanks!

I can't remember the ones I took before I think one was tricycline and Alesse?

I just bleed the entire time I was on them.

Marvelon worked best for me for some reason and I didn't have any weight gain and it balanced my hormones.

What you have posted is exactly why it is hard for Endo patients to get taken seriously. There could be someone like you with severe disease and no symptoms and someone with Stage 1 and in debilitating pain. Very common needless to say but there is more research going on right now so that at least puts us one step forward right? :)

thank you for your response. I wish more people gave their experiences as well :/ Which birth controls have you tried before that seemed to work though, aside from controlling pain? Because I have assymptomatic endo, even though it's severe, weird huh? so I want to find birth control that will do the job for suppression, without giving me horrible SE like weight gain, depression etc. Thanks for all your answers!

I am happy to hear that you are already in the right direction by going to an endo specialist.

I can tell you what worked for me and what did not. Everyone is different in the way they react to HRT so sometimes you just have to try a couple.

Nothing really suppresses endo I wanted you to know that. Endo will continue to grow if it was not properly excised (cut out)

So that being said I will tell you what I have tried.

I tried multiple BCP's before finding out I had endo and nothing worked but Marvelon21. I started taking it before my first surgery and within a week I felt like I had been given back my life. It was like night and day when it came to how badly my hormones had really messed with my head.

After surgery I did take Lupron but I didn't want to but trusted my specialist. He is a big Lupron pusher to everyone. Needless to say it was not a good time and in my journals here on my profile I have my experiences documented for the 3 times I took it within an 6 yrs.

I went back on Marvelon after 3 months of horror from Lupron and stayed on it for 8 yrs continuously only to come off for breakthrough bleeding 3-4 times a year. The last two years I barely even had any breakthrough bleeding at all.

I also tried Visanne which is one that a lot of doctors are pushing in place of Lupron. It is a progesterone only HRT. I was suicidal on this med but it did stop my periods. I only stayed on it for 3 months but many others have had no issues.

For me the only thing that worked and that made me feel sane was Marvelon.

I did have a hysterectomy in 2014 and I am 2 yrs post op. I don't recommend this route to anyone but for my personal journey I was desperate because of the emotional/physical trauma I had gone through for over 2 decades. I am not on HRT and my mind is clear. It is as if I am allergic to estrogen and progesterone. I don't know if I will ever know but like I said Marvelon was something that really helped me a lot.

Natural treatments never worked for me however the paleo diet did help with my bowel pain so I can say that was probably the only pro when it came to natural healing.

Hope that helps some.
