endometriosis cyst- Novelon for 3 months- Acute pain during the period

hello doctor
I had extreme pain during her periods. After consulting the Gyanecologists, she asked for a USG of Pelvis. in the USG report, its was thickened endometrium. Endometroitic cyst. Left ovary shows 2 thick wall cystic lesions with echogenic content 3X3.6 cm snf 2.3X2.2 cm. Left ovary measured 5.5X3.4X4.0cm.
The doctor presecribed Novalon tablets for 3 months. The first period after taking novalon was bit OK but the second period was extremely painful and the pain lasted for more than 4-5 days.
After consulting the doctor again, she asked us to conceive and get pregnant asap, else the cyst will grow further and may face difficulty in conceiving later. Please confirm , if getting pregnant is the only solution ? will it be problematic to conceive if we decide to go for cyst surgery ? do we have any other option ? does Novelon treats endometriotic cyst ?

One thing I am going to tell you and you need to listen please.

1) A doctor telling you to have a baby now when you are not ready and telling you it is your only hope because you could be infertile later needs to be dropped asap!!!!!

2) Yes 1/3 women with infertility problems have Endo however I know many women despite this including myself with stage IV have conceived

3) The purpose of the pill is to see if it will shrink the cyst. If it is a blood filled Endometrioma then it will not shrink.

4) Endometriomas are an indicator of moderate to severe disease and you do need to get that looked at before any damage is done.

5) Do not get operated on by a regular OBGYN or GYNO they do not have the skill to operate using excision (cut out) method as well they will not have the knowledge to understand the different colours and shapes of this disease. It is very complex as it attaches itself not just to the ovaries but also to many other organs like the bowels, bladder, ureters, pelvic wall, rectovaginal area, tubes etc. You do not want someone who is delivering babies all night operating on you as well.. There are endo specialists out there that can remove the disease while still sparing your organs for possible pregnancy when you are ready.

Excision surgery is minimally invasive and is the gold standard for treating Endometriosis. If you need help finding a surgeon or even a second opinion please message me and I will help you. Do not accept this as your only option. A lot of doctors and gynos are not taught alot about endo and it is a very dangerous surgery in the hands of those who are not well trained.

Hi -
I'm not a doctor, but I would think that you shouldn't try to get pregnant unless you are ready to be. There are other treatments for endometriosis and ovarian cysts. In this case, I would recommend a second opinion with another specialist - particularly a specialist in endometriosis and/or infertility.

Novelon is a combination birth control pill and any birth control pill that contains an oestrogen will not help with endometriosis itself. Endo grows because of the hormone estrogen and is inhibited by the hormone progesterone. If you are trying to prevent the growth of endo, you would need to either stop your body from producing the estrogen (which is not a good option if you are young) or counteract the estrogen and prevent it from growing the tissue (by using progesterone).

If you are hoping to conceive in the short term or even if you aren't ready, I recommend getting a second opinion with an endo specialist. There has to be other options out there for you.
