Numbness of the penis shaft & loss of sex drive - What does this mean?

Hello there, I am a 19 year old male with a rather odd problem (I believe) for my age;

About a week ago I was fooling around with my partner & we both engaged in intercourse. During this act, I noticed that my penis suddenly & without warning went numb in & around the shaft area of penis. How numb? When I ran a finger across the area effected, it felt very similar to running your finger across the skin on your elbow.

There was still sensitivity in the head & the skin around that area, but it was harder to maintain the erection in the lower parts, thus, I couldn't attain full arousal as I had very easily been able to do beforehand. My partner & I continued to have sex for a few minutes more before I gave up, seeing as I had already made sure she had been satisfied.

Since that night I've not only been finding it difficult to "get it up" if you will, but I've also found that my once healthy sex drive had diminished by quite an alarming amount. Pornography does little to nothing to stimulate me by just watching without touching the head of my penis when at one time just the sight of an attractive woman would cause great excitement down below.

I went to the doctors & he told me that because I shave my pubic area that this may be the cause for the sudden numbness as I may have upset the skin & this may be the cause of the loss of erection. He didn't seem 100% positive on this diagnosis, but it was the only conclusion he drew for a quick examination of my penis. He told me just to leave it be for a month & it that from similar cases it should heal itself in 1 to 2 months.

I was wondering if maybe I should get some sort of second opinion on the matter. It seems obvious that it's some type of erectile dysfunction & I'm sort of anxious to get proper diagnosis from a urologist.

Let me know what you think, I'd really like to hear other's opinions here, especially from someone with a knowledge of urology & may be able to throw me some helpful advice moving forward. Thanks!

(Forgive some grammatical or spelling mistakes)

For all you know, it could be as simple as your original doctor suggested - that is probably what most GP's would say, since they are more of a referral agent for more difficult issues. But you are only 19, so I wouldn't read (or think) that much into it, it will most likely pass, and you'll be fine in a month.

numbness can be caused by irritation from shaving, My personal opinion on shaving is too cliched, it may be good for pornstars, because the spread of infection.
Your porn/mb also needs to be abstained as well.

So just leave myself alone & let the sensation slowly but surely return?

I also went to see another doctor & he prescribed me some 25mg pills to help with the erection.

The other responders give terrible advice. This is actually a serious issue that has to do with blood flow and nerves. Right now most urologists are unaware of what causes this issue. My belief is that it is related to Pelvic Floor Disorder (google it to see the connection with erectile function).  Just ignoring the problem is not good advice.

Here's another thought - many guys masturbate very vigorously, with almost a death grip on their penis, and that does 2 things that are both bad. First, you'll find you got used to that level of pressure & intercourse & the when with a partner, those sex activities usually can't duplicate that, therefore less arousal & possible loss of erection. 2nd, masturbating that vigorously can just de-sensitize your penis. Of course I have no way of knowing if you do this when by yourself, but if so, try training yourself to get off using less pressure & less vigorous movements. Erections are all about stimulation, so if you've become de-sensitized, not much is going to happen, obviously. And I think the tendency is for the situation to get worse over time. You start feeling less, so you grip even tighter, it becomes a vicious circle. As I said, I don't know if this is an issue for you, but the thought occurred to me & this would be good advice to anyone else who might be feeling numbness. I've also noticed that when I was having intercourse with my wife, if I tried hard not to ejaculate too quickly (i.e., make the act last longer, hoping to satisfy her), I found after awhile I was still hard but couldn't feel anything & then couldn't get off - as with your issue, I was just numb. Hope these thoughts help you or others in some way...
