Pain in knee from running distance

I'm a 24 year old 120lb female who works out moderately. Almost a year ago when on a short run, I started feeling this sharp pain in my right knee towards the lower, outside area. I used to run track for years and never had any knee issues. It started out of no where and ever since, if I go on a run for longer than .75 mile, I get the same sharp pain again. If I continue running with the pain, I'll feel it in the same spot for the next 24-48 hours, especially when going downstairs/upstairs and of course when running. I've stopped running for a long time in hopes this would solve the issue, but after going for a run again recently it came right back. I plan on seeing a doctor for it but I wanted to see if anyone could help me on here.

I got my knee problem initially while running as well.  It doesn't mean it happened because of what you did that day, it might have been building up for awhile.  I don't know why you haven't seen an orthopedist to get an MRI and see if there's a meniscus problem, which it sounds like it might be, or to see if it's just tendinitis.  Hopefully, it will just require physical therapy to rehab, but I don't think at this point it's just going to go away.  Good luck.

Hey, not a doctor at all, so don't count on this as medical advice. But, this could be that you are putting a lot of stress on the tendons in your knees. This could be a problem with your kneecap. Or, it could be a leftover problem from an injury that occurred while you ran track. Once again, this should not be taken as official medical advice, but this may help. Good luck with the knee!
