Constant injuries during exercise

I am a 30 year old man. 6ft7in around 300lbs. My job can be extremely sedentary.

Many times over recent months, I have tried and failed to start an exercise routine. I have been starting out doing pushups and situps.

Every single time I have started back up, I injure myself within the first week or so. After this, I am out of commission for 2 - 4 weeks. This pattern has been on-going for several months.

My looks are not my concern. My CONDITION is my concern. I am currently in extremely poor condition.

I have a partially herniated lumbar disc, so aerobic exercise is difficult. I have access to equipment that you would find in a small gym.

I would prefer to begin my conditioning on my own and enter the gym environment after I have built up my endurance / reconditioned my muscles some. But if the gym is what i need, then so be it.

The last time I was on a regular exercise routine was in my mid-20's. At that time, it was much easier and I was not injuring myself while working out. I seriously want to get back in good condition and would really appreciate any advice on starting an exercise routine.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

With 300 pounds and 6ft and 7inches your body description is considered obese. Your basal metabolic index is 33.8 and you have to target for 25 BMI. Your waist size most probably is more than 38 inches and you have to get it down by 6-8 inches.

Just target yourself  for 220 pounds and for the next one year concentrate on losing around 5-7 pounds each month and you can achieve complete fitness in 1-2 years and then sustain it.

Diet chart has to be prepared for you and for this you have to visit a dietician and discuss what all food you are consuming depending on availability and design something which should be maximum 2000 calories per day consisting of complex fiber rich carbohydrates and protein.

Exercise like running, skipping, swimming, cross trainer, treadmill for 45-60 minutes regularly to lose around 500 calories and do some weights.

You will come into shape by following these things and your spine problem and risk of other medical problems will decrease drastically.

Take care!

Also, I have adjusted my diet several times, but I never lose weight. I normally gain it.

What am I doing wrong?

How can I find out "how much" I'm supposed to eat each day?
