Is it okay to be embarrassed?

I'm roughly 200 pound 5'4" 23 years old female who wants to exercise more. But I feel like the only thing I can do in public is go for a walk. I want to jog but the roads are busy and I don't like the idea of passers watching. I get the same way at the gym. How does one over come this phobia?

I go to the gym every day and everyone is only thinking about what they are doing and keeping track of the reps. and sets being done. You have to make up your mind and just do it!!

I fully agree with the others!!!!  Also think about it this way--- I'm a "friends" tv show junkie!  I love it.  I watch the reruns, have the collectors DVDs...  You know addicted!  Anyway.  Bare with me I do have a point...  There is an episode where phoebe and Rachel are jogging and phoebe is jogging crazy arms waving legging waving and heading bobbing--- she just looks silly!  Rachel is embarrassed!  Rachel of course is trying to run perfectly!!  Phoebe tells her no one cares and to remember what it felt like as a kid to run....  So Rachel runs one day by herself like phoebe and runs right smack into a live horse and gets up and realizes no one is laughing at her and starts running again.

Walk, jog, do what you need to do!  People are too busy in life to realize what's going on around them.  Do what makes you feel good.  Besides there are probably people out there feeling the same way you are!

I am amazed when I see someone out running when they look in shape but even more so when I see someone overweight pushing themselves to live a healthier lifestyle. I always say to myself "Good for you!" Maybe you could start with walking and get comfortable being out there in front of people. I guarantee you will get over thinking people are looking at you. You'll notice everyone is just doing their own thing just like you. Push yourself through your anxiety.
You would be amazed at how brave you really are.  Good luck!

Trust me everyone will be busy with their training they don't really care what you do and the people that keep starring at others are people that can't reach their goals themselves, just do what ever you want and don't think about what other will think about you.
