Pre-workout honey ingestion for energy

I have a question regarding the ingestion of honey before exercise.  I currently attend a Krav Maga combatives course four nights a week.  It consists of highly intensive cardio and strength training for one hour at a time.  Now, because I work in one of those life-force-draining cubicle jobs all day, I often feel like I have no energy left by workout time.  To remedy this, I've taken to eating two tablespoons of straight honey about 45 minutes before class starts, and it really makes a noticeable difference.  I was just wondering if this is OK for my body.  I'm 30 with no health problems and in pretty good shape.  I eat well (only simple sugars come from fruit--no candy or other sweets) and have no family history of diabetes or any other blood sugar related disease.  That being said, I'm still concerned that spiking my blood sugar and then exercising intensely four times a week could trigger something nasty ala diabetes or hypoglycemia.  Any thoughts?

Honey is just carbohydrates in a pure form.  You could get the same effect by eating some bananas.

My ex-husband was a bee keeper and had many boods about the advantages of hoeny and life of bees.  I say if you eat organic hoeny i.e honey made by wild bees without bee keepers interfernce no harm should come to you.  Man made honey means honey made by bees kept in hives in farms, I know for fact that bee keepers put plates of sugar in front of hives and bees collect thoes sugars to make honey, I do not thing that honey is safe.  To me it is sugar in a different form made by tricked poor bees. on the other hand organic honey is hard to find and very expensive.  Your best bit is to consult a nutitionist.

Hi,

Your post caught my eye because I am OBSESSED with honey.  It's one of my favorite foods.

There are many, many articles on the health benefits of honey available online... Check them out... (some are put up by the honey industry itself - you may want to avoid those just to be sure you're getting unbiased info)...

I put honey in my pre- and post-workout health shakes... I also put it on cereal, oatmeal, grits, etc. in the morning, as well as in tea...
