Exercise often, and follow a varied plan that includes strength training. Use the workouts that make use of flexibility and stretching, strength training and aerobics for the best results. Fitting in regular sessions of weightlifting, calisthenics or other strength activities can help increase muscle mass and keep the body toned and strong. Aerobics will help with burning calories, endurance and weight management, and stretching helps prevent injuries and prepare the body for more intense movements. To stay healthy, you need a minimum of three or four days of exercise per week.

A healthy diet that focuses on variety, balance and proper nutrition. If you don't already have a healthy eating plan picked out, try the United States Department of Agriculture's food pyramid, which features five groups: grains, lean proteins, vegetables, fruits and dairy. Whenever possible, pick whole, unprocessed foods from each group instead of prepared or processed items. Whole foods tend to offer the most vitamins, minerals and nutritional benefits with the fewest calories and fat grams.

Get seven or eight hours of sleep every night. Getting the proper amount of sleep helps the immune system function well, improves memory and can even boost physical performance. Try establishing a bedtime routine, relaxing and letting go of stress before bed and keeping your bedroom as comfortable as possible to consistently get high-quality and productive sleep.

Strong mental health is tied to strong physical health and makes it possible for people to maintain productive social relationships and reach personal goals. Be aware of attitudes and thought processes and challenging those that are negative by changing and redirecting them to more positive outlets. Other strategies including showing appreciation for positive events and circumstances, focusing on activities you enjoy and constantly working to enhance your quality of life.
