Injections in to muscle? Too much bad?

Will injections harm my arm muscles? I get 4 allergy shots twice a week in to the arms up to 10cc's each shot. I am skinny with low body fat. Can 10cc's repeated damage my muscle? Do I need to toss my med and get a stronger dose to keep the volume under 5cc's? I was told by someone that 5cc's is the limit for repeated use before you start to damage muscle tissue. True/False?

Hi crystalfresh, thanks for your reply and hope you are doing well and feeling better now? Do not loose hopes, it is for your good you are asking many questions to the doctor, so need not worry about it. I do understand that doctor do get frustrated with many silly questions not really worth related to the treatment aspects hence discourage such things by the patients. Well, give extra care to your arms as you are regularly getting the shots, do gentle massage and hot foment at bedtime. Consult your doctor regularly for an examiantion of arms to track any chances of infection. Is the asthma now under control. Keep updating your progress and share your thougths with other members. Take care.

My old doctor is not here any more and used to answer all my questions. My new doctor is following my progress closely and carefully. But they tell me I ask too many questions so I don't really have a place to get answers. This site has been very helpful. I pushed for more dosage and while more is very helpful I just wanted to make sure I wasn't hurting my arms with volume of fluid to gain progress elsewhere. Yes more is helping me. Thank you to both of you for your participating in my thread.

Hi crystalfresh, thanks for your reply and the updates. Hope you are feeling better? Are you being regularly followed-up by your doctor to check the progress and to review the medication chart. Do not increase the frequency blindly, your physician has planned the shots depending on the required drug dose. You may risk over dose reactions if you pump too much drug. Consult a chest physician and an allergy specialist for proper care and prevention of asthma. Avoid cold and dusty environments. Keep yourself warm and have avoid cold foods. Take care and share your thoughts.

You can also try giving them in your thighs.  I did that for a while, but I will tell you the reactions are usually a bit more than what you get in the arm...and it will make your legs feel funky with the swollen spot when walking.

However, that is an alternative.  Stomach is also another site.  Aren't these sub-q shots, not IM, though?  Or are your different from mine?

2 needles both arms twice a week. I was going to push for 3 times a week because more shots = less allergy = less asthma.

I just don't know if I can over do it with the amounts if "fluid" in to my arms. Just worried it can cause muscle damage. As for duration, 3 months. After that they are making new fluid that is more concentrated so I would only need 5cc's on going.

Hi crystalfresh, how are you doing? What is the duration for which you are suppose to get the injections. Are you being investigated for a specific cause of allergy? You can ask for alternate use of arm to get the shot. Usually muscle absorb the drug better. Chances of infection can be there. It is better to consult the attending physician and discuss your concerns in detail to modify the plan of care at physician discretion. Keep posting on your progress and share your thoughts. Take care.
