am i doing this right?

i go to the gym 4-5 days a week but I've just been doing cardio, i want to take off about 30 pounds before i start trying to tone. is this the way to go about it or should i start lifting now?

Start strength training.  It will help with the weight loss.

You also need to do strength training! Muscle burns more calories than fat!
