Problems balancing electrolytes...please help

I ran a marathon last year and trained for Twin Cities marathon.  Through my entire training, I would find myself getting nauseated and throw up sick between miles 15 and 20.  Unfortunately I only made it to mile 22.5 before throwing up during the actual marathon.  I have not been able to use GUs as the consistancy makes me feel sick.  I ended my training runs and the attempted marathon with a lot of salt deposited on my legs, face and arms....has this ever happened to anyone?

Hello!

Zoloft, sertraline causes many side effects like nausea, dizziness, headache, tremor, drowsiness and paresthesia in some individuals. Consider changing your medication.

Check with your physician about the side effects of zoloft and also go for a mineral estimation as suggested.

I don't know what GU's mean, but I do know that constant electrolyte balance is a problem for many at the gym I work for. I need to balance my electrolytes and have been directed from my naturopath myself as to how. Firstly most peoples diets are high in Sodium but low in Potassium which are the main ingredient in electrolytes. Not enough potassium causes muscle cramping and twitching. On the other hand nausea and weakness can represent sodium deficiency from excess sweating. Maybe during your races you need to include an electrolyte mix in your water so you are drinking and replacing your electrolytes throughout your races. Otherwise, "no salt" is a great high dose source of potassium, himalayan rock salt is a great sourse of sodium.

I only take a form of Zofloft.  Otherwise I don't take any medications.  Could my anti-depressent affect me?

Hello!

You should get your mineral balance checked and follow up near your physician. Do you take any medications, diuretics which have to be reviewed by the physician.
