4 years after cataract surgery

I felt like something was in my eye, went to the eye doctor who said he pulled out a stitch from a 4 yr old cataract surgery. Is this normal? Or was he negligent?

Many surgeries now are done without stitches but not everywhere. Sometimes the incision 'leaks' and stitches are necessary. Over time (usually years) these dissolve in some place on the loop and sharp ends stick up. they then have to be removed. It indicates no negligence. I took out some stitches put in by a different surgery 5 years ago that just last months dissolved.
