Alternating esotropia and glasses?

I'm 17, I have alternating esotropia, and I also only use one eye at a time. Last time I had an exam, about a year ago I had 20/20 vision but now I think I may need glasses. If I wear these glasses often could that make my eye cross more when not wearing them? I've heard of this happening and don't want to risk it as my eye has made such an improvement with the alignment.
