Bausch & Lomb SofPort L161AO vs Tecnis CL Z9002

I'm comparing two silicone aspheric intraocular lenses ... the Bausch and Lomb SofPort L161AO and the Tecnis CL Z9002.  I understand that both have optics made of silicone.  Also, I understand that third-generation silicone is the latest.  Are they both made of the third-generation ???
.
Also, I understand that both have haptics made of PMMA acrylic.  However, the Tecnis haptics are blue.  Does this blue color offer any advantage ???
.
Has either proven to be more stable than the other ... that is, does one stay in place (not decenter or tilt)  better than the other ???
.
Regarding the design of the edge of the optic, does the "OptiEdge" of the Tecnis (square posterior edge and rounded anterior edge) produce a lesser degree of undesirable optical effects (dysphotopsia) ... such as glare, halos, arcs, rings, streaks, starbursts and shadows ... than that of the Bausch and Lomb ???
.
Regarding the SofPort, is either or both of the edges frosted ???
.
Again, regarding the design of the edge of the optic, has clinical experience (as opposed to laboratory tests) with either IOL shown one to be superior to the other in minimizing migration of epithelial cells and thus minimizing Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO) ???

Regarding PCO current silicone square edges will be adequate to prevent primary PCO. Both lenses are likely to be equivalent
Ive seen very low PCO rates with the AMO clariflex lenses over more than a decade..

The November 2006 issue of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today has several articles comparing various aspheric IOLs, including the SofPort AO and Tecnis CL,  You can find archived issues online at their website (http://bmctoday.net/crstoday/).

These articles may not answer all of your questions, but they are an interesting read nonetheless.

I can't answer any of those questions.  However, I can add another thing to look at.

I believe that the Tecnis has negative spherical correction and the SofPort has neutral correction.  Thus, if you had your cornea's spherical aberration measured, the resulting number might suggest which of those two lenses would correct your S.A. best.

I have had a terrible time getting info about any of the stuff you mention.   It's tedious and frustrating!

Good luck finding any research which addresses your questions.  There probably is none.  Most of the research on IOLs is sponsored by the lens manufacturers, and they aren't going to pay for studies which would probably show that the IOLs of a competitor are just as good as their own.  I'm not an eye care professional, but you seem to be comparing two excellent lenses.  (There is an article in a recent online edition of EyeWorld magazine, in which the features of the newest Tecnis aspheric monofocal model are compared to those of a decade-old spherical AcrySof lens.  Guess which IOL was found to be superior?  Hint:  the research was sponsored by AMO, the manufacturer of Tecnis.)
