Black circle in vision (left eye) - OCT image included

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and have signed up after having had enough of a vision problem for a year!

A year ago I noticed a black circle appear in the upper left corner of my left eye. It's visible when I look straight ahead but disappears when I try to look directly at it.

At night or in darker rooms this circle sometimes looks lighter, almost white and in the same position.

My OCT showed an abnormality - circled in the link below. My optician has no idea what it is or what might have caused it. However they are fairly sure this is what is causing my vision issues.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice. Just feeling really frustrated and hopeless!

Thanks

That OCT is not diagnostic, especially seeing I can only see one frame.  My suggestion would be to see a Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in retina.  You need high resolution OCT,  fluoroscene  angiogram, Amsler grid and visual fields.

Hi John,

Many thanks for your advice.

I was referred to see a consultant at the eye hospital. They ran various tests and said they don't believe that that little dip in the image is causing any issues.

I then went back to my regular optician who said they think the abnormality in the image is definitely the cause, although they can't explain what it is.

I'm very confused and being given conflicting advice, I may well never get to the bottom of this.
Monitor for changes, if anything new happens see the eye hospital. Read about amsler grid testing, print one out and check each eye weekly looking again for change, distortion.
I just did this and didn't notice any distortion. I'll monitor weekly for any changes.

I do have another noticeable symptom - colours look duller in my left eye, especially green. Not sure if this means anything.

Thanks
It can mean early assymetric cataract formation, unlateral macular problem or optic nerve problem.  Ask about it next time you see your Eye MD
