Blind-spot/blindness in Left eye lasting 1 hr

Good Evening everyone,

A few months ago I was working on my insanity workout, and shortly after my workout when I was calming down and stretching I went blind in my left eye or what seemed to be a huge blind spot. I walked to my standing mirror and when I tried to see myself I could only see the right side of my body and face and not my left side. I remember it was more of a rainbow blotchiness or like having a film over my eye, but I could not see a thing. I figured that it was probably due to dehydration from doing an intense workout so I drank more water and relaxed. It went away slowly within and hour and then I decided not to think much of it. Ps, I have 20/20 vision.

Then, a few months later (maybe 1-2 months ago), I decided to go to dinner with one of my roommates. We arrived at the restaurant and sat down at our booth. It was a bit dark and bad lighting in the restaurant, but I grabbed the menu and was trying to figure out what I wanted to drink. When I grabbed the menu, my vision disappeared once again, similar experience as before, and in my left eye. I tried really hard to see the menu but it was like having a giant blind spot once again and I could not see the menu unless if I placed it more in front of my right eye. I was waiting for it to go away and got up to go to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and the same thing happened as before where I couldn't see the left side of my face or body. I sat back down and within 45 minutes to an hour it went away.

I have an ophthalmology appointment scheduled for December 23rd, but that's a long wait. I was told if they see anything (especially w/in my Left eye) that they would send me to the neuro-opthalmology department.

What do you think of this issue? Also, I just remembered that lately within this past month it feels like everything is a bit darker than it used to be. I wouldn't say my vision is black, but it feels like everything is darker.

Thanks!

Thank you for the information. I am trying to get an appointment sooner. Also, I am 22 (will be 23 in March). Sometimes I feel like I have an inflammatory issue or autoimmune disease going on, but I've seen a rheumatologist and every test was negative (lupus, rheumatoid, strep tests, fibromyalgia, etc). I was seeing her because my lymph nodes have been swollen since October 2011, but the needle aspirate biopsy showed nothing. So, sometimes I wonder if because of this inflammation if I have a blood flow issue or not. Hopefully I can get an eye appointment next week when I call on Monday. Thank you so much for your help!

Warm regards,
Ashley

You need to be evaluated much sooner than December 23.  You did not give your age, but the symptoms could be related to blood flow, inflammation, or migraine.  See an ophthalmologist right away; you will need a visual field test as well as a dilated retinal exam.
