Can't read small print with new glasses

I had my eyes examined after 5 years. The doctor said that there was a very little change and gave me a new prescription. I got the new eyeglasses made 5 days ago. With my new eyeglasses the images are a little sharper but I cannot read fine prints. I did not have this problem with my old glasses. Even now when I put my old glasses on I can easily read small prints. New glasses are single vision, the dodtor said I did not really need bifocals. Did anyone experience a similar problem? How was it corrected?

If you are in your early, mid 40's then your eyes are telling you that if you want to see the best you can distant, near, mid then you need progressive bifocals. Welcome to the club.

You did not state your age, but I'm guessing that you're in your 40's and showing the beginnings of presbyopia.  Leaving your eyes slightly nearsighted (like with your old glasses) will allow you to continue to read fine print for awhile.  One alternative is to get progressive glasses.  Or you could fully correct your distance vision (with your new glasses) and peak under them to read the fine print.
