It does make sense. To see the best you can see at all distances you likely will need no line progressive bifocals. You may be able to read some at near without glasses.
Read the Blog posting I just made (go to expert, go to John Hagan MD, go to blogs read last one. Discusses vision after surgery with and without glasses.

Hello,
I went to the eye doctor who sent me for surgery. He told me that a distance lens was put in my eye. I can see fairly well close up, but I cannot see distance at all. He had me look through a corrective lens on my right eye, and I could see distance. He told me I will have to wear glasses for both far and near always. This didn't make sense to me. I can see close, yet cannot see far without glasses. please let me know your thoughts on that.
In the intrim I have an appointment for a second opinion, with my records in hand.

At 10 days out of an uncomplicated surgery if the IOL was set for distance (greater than 20 feet/6 meters) the vision should be pretty clear. If it isn't but a glasses test (refraction) improves the distance vision nicely than the problem is usually IOL power problem. If the distance does not clear with glasses test it could be a medical problem. that's about all I can tell you.
You can ask them to do a glasses test to confirm you can see far away with glasses. At some point if things don't get better you might want a second opinion.
