First of all this is a phenomen that many people with normal eyes have (most have it but are unaware of it).  There is a huge multi year, 1000+ comments on this very subject.  It is also more common after cataract surgery because with the cataract gone the retina is super-sensitive for a while.   However in your case the ARMD would explain it.  One of the old time tests for ARMD was to time the time it took for the macula to change from light stress.  the eye with ARMD adjusts slower to dark or to light than a non-ARMD EYE.  It would be more noticeable after cataract surgery. Most people even those with ARMD are less aware after 6-8 weeks post op.
