Dense cataract

Can I wait to have a dense cataract removed?  Is there any danger in doing so?

I didn't explain myself very well.  Under what conditions do  overripe cataracts require immediate removal.  Also, do I have to have them removed if my vision does not present any problem to me?

Dear Margareta,

Cataracts can become overripe, but these are not common in the U.S.  Cataracts are not usually considered an emergency; however, under some circumstances immediate removal is indicated.  If you have a dense cataract, removal is the only method which will enable recovery of sight.
