I cannot add any helpful information or advice for you. These retina conditions are all different, risk factors vary, there is even differences of opinion among excellent retina Eye MDs about which holes/tears/detachments need treatment.
The only thing I can suggest is to get a third opinion. I note you are from the UK, good luck. Most posters here complain bitterly of problems getting to see ophthalmologists, getting special tests, getting treatment, et. You may need to see a private practice consultant.

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes i have felt that it is very hard to see an ophthalmologist here in the UK. I just seem to get passed onto someone else who wont really decide on treatment or what to do next. My next appointment isn't till the end of February so i will see how things go but it already seems to be getting worse.(more floaters, black shadow/curtain and some flashes of light) I may consider seeing a private consultant.
Thank you
