Detached retina but the doctor says it wont damage my vision?

I am 20 years old and I have had many problems with my eyes since March this year. I had an operation at the end of March for a detached retina in my right eye which had been there for quite a while. Since the operation i still have wavy blurry vision. A couple of months later i started to get blurred vision in my left eye and was told it was just from a migraine but it was later discovered to be retinoschisis. They also said this was very strange because i am very short sighted. A short time later i started getting a curtain going down over my left eye and when i went back i was told it looked like a detachment but they weren't sure. I then waited 10 weeks for a second opinion and was advised it is a detachment but they don't think it will progress and i wont need any sort of treatment. Is this right? Is there such thing as a detached retina that wont progress and cause any problems?

Any help would be very much appreciated as i am totally lost with it all now.
Thanks

I cannot add any helpful information or advice for you. These retina conditions are all different, risk factors vary, there is even differences of opinion among excellent retina Eye MDs about which holes/tears/detachments need treatment.

The only thing I can suggest is to get a third opinion. I note you are from the UK, good luck. Most posters here complain bitterly of problems getting to see ophthalmologists, getting special tests, getting treatment, et. You may need to see a private practice consultant.

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes i have felt that it is very hard to see an ophthalmologist here in the UK. I just seem to get passed onto someone else who wont really decide on treatment or what to do next. My next appointment isn't till the end of February so i will see how things go but it already seems to be getting worse.(more floaters, black shadow/curtain and some flashes of light) I may consider seeing a private consultant.
Thank you
