Direct flash to eyes

I have been exposed from a very little distance (couple of inches) to an external photographic flash (bigger one) directly to my eyes a couple of days ago. It blinded me instantly for a couple of seconds. When I was able to see again I saw little bit blurry with purple colour and shape of the flash still on my vision, it seems to recover now except I still feel a little discomfort in my eyes. I wonder if this might damage my eyes and if I need to worry and see my doctor?

External flash that is attached to the camera (not studio one).

No, what you saw was an afterimage. That brief of flash will not hurt your eye
