Standard of Care for eye Surgery

My wife had eye surgery for the removal of recurring cataract in lens capsule with laser.  The opthamologist did one follow up exam the next day.  Two months later my wife woke up and couldn't see out of that eye.  The same doctor examined her again and diagnosed a detached retina.  After multiple procedures since, she has regained some but not all of the vision she enjoyed before the first surgery.  Is only one follow up visit after this procedure the usual standard of care?

I had the YAG procedure in my right eye back in May and my eye doctor did one quick followup exam 2 weeks later.
But I see him anyway for routine exams for glaucoma a couple times a year as well.

Yes.   Most retinal detachments give warning: sudden increase of floaters, flashes of light like lightening or loss of peripheral or central vision. With those symptoms anyone should contact an ophthalmologist immediately.  Know that if a person has a RD in one eye the risk is very high for the second eye.

Let me elaborate. On most cases where we do Yag we don't have any follow up visits. Just do laser in surgical area, then go upstairs to office, check vision, pressure, glasses test, exam the retina, tell them if any problems or concerns call and come in. So if she was seen sometime after the yag laser was done that is above and beyond.
