Eye Twitch

For the past week I've had an almost constant eye twitch in my lower left lid (no where else, just my lower left lid). It comes and goes but is pretty frequent and is really annoying. It seems to stop when I close my eyes though. I am not under any unusual amout of stress and get enough sleep. I only drink decaf coffee and no soda. I have heard for some this can go on for months. Anyone else have this before?  It can be very concerning!

You are pretty young, and with some more years under your belt, you will find this is a really common condition.  I, having some decades on you, have experienced it a LOT.

The usual yap is that caffeine, nerves, stress are the major culprits, and therefore, if one is prone to panic or anxiety, well, there you go!  Personally, I think that merely being alive is the biggest one.  The twitches come, and then they go away.  Interestingly, though, the more you fret about them, the worse they do become-- though in general, even at their worst, they are not really visible to others.

Oh, one personal observation. though:  I have seasonal allergies, and I have learned that swelling around the eyes--for me-- seems to contribute quite a bit to the problem.  This was a recent and accidental discovery:  my eye doc prescribed some antihistamine drops for my itchy eyes, and lo and behold, the little bout of twitches that I had been experiencing simply stopped about 24 hours after I began using the drops.

You are very welcome...I know sometimes it seems as if it will never go away but it does...but it will come and go...sleep, relaxation and minimizing tension will probably help prevent it from coming back and as i mentioned, sometimes the quinine in the tonic water will work to stop it sooner...

I get it too and i am much older then you (just started to get it about a year ago)...

You could try drinking some Tonic Water (it has quinine, which is a muscle relaxer) and that might make it stop...sometimes that works for me aand other times it doesn't...

However, either way, it will stop by itself eventually and yes it can last for weeks...i think the longest i have had it last was a bit over 2 weeks or so..
Get more sleep, relax and try to stop thinking about it...

Talked to both my eye doc and my primary care, both want to just let it go and see what happens. I have a regular follow up for my eyes in 2 weeks and my annual physical with my primary on 4/15, if its still there then, they will check it out :)

I will, thank you. It is contained to just my lower lid, no where else thank Goodness. Its not causing my entire eye to close, just a constant little jump in my bottom lid. Very frustrating.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Most commonly related to stress.  Rarely, associated with neurological conditions.  Please get an eye exam to make sure there are no associated problems.
