FB Sensation

I have been bothered by foriegn body sensation in one eye most every morning that lasts about an hour then resolves.  Usually use visine as there is a sensation that something is in the eye.  Can never find fb in eye. No vision changes or other symptoms.  Strabismus surgery on same eye 5 years ago complicated by corneal errosion that healed after a fews months.  No problems since then until current symptoms.  Thoughts as to what it could be??

Dear vh115,

It is possible that you are experiencing a recurrent corneal erosion or have an abnormality of the basement membrane that causes the outer layer of the cornea [epithelium] to its underlying layer.  I would recommend that you seek the care of a corneal specialist in the early morning and describe this to them.  They will be able to determine whether this indeed the problem and recommend some treatments, including muro 128 ointment at night and drops during the day.
