Finding The Best Retina Specialist

I underwent Lasik on January 2006. The right eye needed a 2nd enhancement in March 2006. Immediately after the 2nd procedure I suffered a Post Anterior Vitreous Jelly detachment that has produced a significant Macular Pucker.

I have multiple symptoms including poor light perception (everything is dim and washed out), out of focus, wavy lines, shimmery debris in bright light situations and veins in vision field when I blink.

The Lasik procedure was performed by William Culbertson at Bascolm Palmer in Miami. After struggling with this for the past 2 years I really no longer feel welcomed or trusting of staff at this facility. I'm asking myself if they really want to help or are they afraid of the legal implications and really just wish me to accept my situation and go away.

I understand that Harry Flynn, MD and William Smiddy, MD at Bascom Palmer are renowned world-wide. But I'd really like a 2nd opinion away from this facility.

Can someone recommend an independent Retina Specialist in the Dade, Broward or Palm Beach area?

Thanks!

Just some reassurance that Bascolm Palmer Institute is among the top centers in the world. You can find a board certfied member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology that specializes in retina/vitreous in those areas at www.aao.org

I don't know Florida that well, but these guys have good information on vitreous disorders, RD, and vitrectomy in Floida.

Good luck. I must admit I am surprised by the vitreous problem was post a Lasik enhancement. It is my understandng that during an enhancement the same flap is used, thus sparing the portion of the surgery that puts the most pressure on the retina and vitreous (the suction with the creation of the flap).

All the best!

I think you can trust a respected retinal specialist.  For a nominal fee, you could try www.castleconnolly.com for another opinion.
