When your doctor said "gel" he was referring to the vitreous gel inside the eye. It can get cloudy for a number of reasons. In your case it is probably a result of the cataract surgery, but it could also be due to age. The inflammation you currently have needs to be contolled, which would help your vision. You will have to live w/ the floater as there is not much that can be done about it. Be aware of the signs of a retinal detachment. Seek out a second opinion, but from a retinal specialist and not a cataract surgeon, if you feel that the cloudiness is getting worse or need further reassurance.
Dear Cinderita,
Floaters are spots that float and is related to a separation of the or consistency of the vitreous gel of the eye. I would recommend that you ask your eyeMD to explain to you in further detail what is occurring.

All the doctor said was that I would have to live with the cloudiness and this very large spider-like floater. Never would answer as to what caused this gel? He is treating the inflammation with Pred Forte.
