Heart Care Professional Seeking Eye Care Professionals opinion

What is the guidance and/or what is your practice in terms of ophthalmology referrals for Mild-Moderate Infantile Esotropia beyond 6 months of age? If a pediatrician seems reluctant to make a referral at what point should a patient be putting their foot down to demand to see a specialist if at all?

I got some decent pictures of the case in question if needed.

The child should be referred immediately to an ophthalmologist as soon as congential esotrophia is observed or even if there is a question of the eyes crossing. This is true of any type of eye muscle problem (strabismus) as the pediatrician is not trained to care for it. DEMAND a referral if you cannot self refer, if you can find a pediatric ophthalmologist if available.

I tried looking at the relevant guidance from the AAO and it wasn't jiving with what we were getting out of peds. I just needed to hear it from someone else before getting too pushy...
