Vitrectomy has caused vertical tropia?

Today, i went to an optometrist to explore my options (contacts and glasses) after my vitrectomy more than 2 weeks ago.  My right eye also had the cataract removed during the surgery and fitted with a monofocal lens that correct my myopia to -2.5. Right now, my right eye can see the big picture generally but pthere are distortions and some parts missing in my vision.  I cannot read with it.  Leaving my right eye as is, whether using contact or glass over my left eye, i am generally ok especially looking far but a little discomfort when looking on the ground but i walk fine.  Reading, there is some disurbance from my right eye.  My optometrist says my brain automatically shuts out the poor vision from my right and i am essentially using my left eye far or near. However, when he tried to improve my right vision by putting on a stronger glass, i begin to see vertcal double vision which he calls tropia.  He thinks the vitrectomy has caused this.  He cannot find a solution at his end but thinks surgery might be a solution.  I am quite lost.

Since the vision in your RE did not come up to 20/20 with a proper refraction its most likely that the reduced vision is due to the retina detachment and myopic macular degeneration. What would account also for distortion. You can confirm this with your retina MD.  Since glasses do not improve vision in RE anywhere near the LE it's doubtful that glasses over the RE are appropriate especially since they make you see double.  Retinal detachment and vitrectomy surgery can cause eye muscle problems such as a hypertropia however it highly unlikely that eye muscle surgery is appropriate since the poor vision makes the eye not "fuse" well with the other eye. Remember again to protect the LE as that is your most important eye.
