Woke up with one eye bigger than the other? Is it swollen?

I woke up and my mum noticed one of my eyes (left) is smaller than the other? Im really freaking out about this. Ive taken a picture to show what it looks like. Why is one eye smaller than the other all of a sudden? Is it because of tiredness? I have been fasting for 3 days... Not fasting today. I havent been sleeping very well either. Can anyone help? Im hopefully going to my doctor today.

Hi John, I went to my local GP (from england here) and he said my eyelid is swollen, He asked me all these questions and I said no (e.g. Is it itchy, is it painful etc) He gave me these Pills that I should take once a day and go back to him if it isnt better in 3/4days.

If you still have the problem when you read this you should call your Ophthalmologist or optometrist immediately and get in for an exam. if you are having any systemic symptoms like trouble with speech, balance, mentation, headache,, etc. call your family MD immediately or have someone take you to an ER. It could be someing symple like a style starting but there are several serious condtions that cause sudden inability to open eyelid.

I suspect you will welcome your 18th birthday with a swollen eyelid. The most common cause of this is an eyelid gland infection most often a "stye" your treatment would consist of warm, moist compresses and seeing either your family MD or an ophthalmologist for a proper diagnosis and topical antibiotic eye drops. There is  no quick fix for this unless you have an allergic reaction to something you came in contact with in which case there is not pain, redness, point tenderness and it might be better by now

The eyeball will not suddenly change shape. However it can appear bigger if the eyelids are swollen or retracted. This can occur with allergy, contact with an irritating substance or an infected gland in the lid. Or the tissue on the surface of the eyeball can suddenly swell. In any if its not back to normal and pain free by the time you read this you should contact your personal physician.

Hi
I woke up today and everything about my eyes was normal, as always. Suddenly I felt some pain in my left eye. I also felt my vision was shadowed a little in left eye. Then I tried to wide open it to see if it is red or something. I kept it open wide for 30-50 seconds but no redness, etc. Now my left eye is bigger than right eye. It ha been ~1 hour but still my left eye is bigger. It doesn't return to normal. I am freaking to death. Please help me. Thank you.

There are a variety of medical eye conditions that might cause your symptoms some are relatively minor but others could be serious and require treatment by a medical doctor. (ophthalmologist). I would strongly suggest you start immediately to see an ophthalmologist, you can call one and ask for an emergency same day exam, if you have a family MD you can ask your doctor to arrange a consult or if nothing works go to emergency room with eye MDs on staff.

Yeah hi. I just had that 2days ago, actuality still got it now. But Im going to explain it well. I woke up and my left eye hurt,  and I couldnt open it. Sealed shut by those eye buggers I thought,  but no. I still can barely open it,  and it doesnt hurt... Anymore. Its more like a lazy eye lid now... Could this be permanent?

If your eye is only slightly red, no pain, no reduced vision, no matter or discharge you do not need to do anything

Yeh this is difficult to do in the UK quickly. Best thing is to walk in to an ER and get an emergency consult.

I understand this is very difficult in the UK but try and get in to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist.

Okay far better if the problem is an eyelid infection than a neurological problem related to pressure on the nerve that holds the lid up.

I would strongly suggest you either go in TODAY to see your family MD or go to an emergency room. A sudden onset of a droopy lid especially if the lid is not swollen, tender and red (stye) could be a sign of something serious. TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW. DO NOT IGNORE THIS.

Hi, I currently have noticed that my right eye is smaller than the other. It is not painful but I was wondering if this is permanent?
An eye that suddenly appears to be smaller or larger is usually due to problems with the EYELIDS not the eye itself.  Sudden changes are usually due to eyelid infections, show changes can be due to droopy eyelids (ptosis) or the eye can be pushed forward due to material behind the eye (exophthalmos). All of these conditions require an exam by an Eye MD ophthalmologist.
