ICL experience

AT 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 I had an ICL procedure performed in my right eye.
Earlier I had been debating whether or not to get RLE surgery with Crystalens or Tetraflex and was talked out of both by my doctor.
After an hour long discussion in Calgary about 5 weeks ago we decided to go with an ICL. It had to be custom made for my eye because apparently my anterior chambers were too small.
After the iridotomy which was done at that visit I decided to only get the worst eye done ( right ) because the iridotomy was the worst pain I've ever felt but NOW....I wish I would have gone with both eyes.
Two days later I'm back home and the vision in my right eye is FANTASTIC.
The surgery took exactly 20 minutes and I do have a DVD of the whole procedure but I cannot get it to play. I've tried 3 computers and I really don't know what the problem is. The sound is there but no video. Just a blank blue screen with a musical note in the middle.
I didn't feel pain during the surgery but there was definitely some discomfort even though I was given double freezing etc.
Anyway, I got through it and immediately put on my sunglasses as I looked like an alien ( HUGE pupil and no colour )
I was a bit worried right after surgery because I really couldn't see much with my right eye but I think that was due to the dilation. The next day I was panic stricken as it hadn't improved much 5 feet out. Close up I could see perfectly but after that it was blurred and distorted.
My appointment was very early in the morning and I went through a whole battery of tests again and 2 doctors told me that one day after surgery I had 20/25 vision with J1 acuity and they told me that was very good and it would improve gradually. They said there was more than the usual amount of swelling and that was causing the distortion. I remained skeptical and then I remembered that after my RK surgery everything was upside down the next day for about 6 or 7 hours.
When I woke up this morning you can imagine my delight as EVERYTHING was crystal clear. I really wish I had both eyes done but if it HADn"Turned out well....I would have wished the opposite.
The Gimbel Eye Centre gave me a card to carry around in my wallet.
It says Starr Surgical Patient information and has the measurements of my Visian ICL on it
Diopter: +5.0
Optic Diameter : 5.5 mm
Overall Diameter: 12.0 mm
I am delighted with my results and I am going to have my left eye done as soon as possible  even though I need minimal correction. I want perfection.
Thanks for reading this and It's a good alternative to IOLs in my opinion.

Hello again,
I'm back home from my eye appointment and as far as the eye goes, everything looks good.
Still plenty of inflammation and a bit of bruising on the sclera and I was told that if it isn't perfect in one month they will do some tweaking. I didn't ask what they had in mind because I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
The doctor that saw me told me that Dr. Gimbel was aiming for *plano* in my right eye and I didn't have that yet. He also said that if and when I get my left eye done I'll have to go to Calgary again and Dr. Gimbel will have to do it because that is their protocol. The Vigamox was also discussed and he agreed that I can never use it again. It's been over 48 hours now since I stopped using it and I THINK the lesions are fading. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but I definitely don't have any new ones.
I asked him how a tiny amount of an eye drop could cause such a thing and he told me that people that are allergic to peanuts can have a reaction to the peanut dust in the air and people that are allergic to shellfish can have an attack if the JUICE touches their lips. Peanuts are banned here at the football games and at the hockey games because of that. I guess I've never really thought about it because this is the first allergic reaction I've had in my life.
I have to continue with the prednisone eye drops for three more weeks to control the swelling. All in all....it's been worth it and I'm delighted with the results.
I want to make this clear though. It is not proven that Vigamox caused this reaction. It's just opinions of people in the medical field. All of them said however, that it was highly likely that Vigamox caused it.
I appreciate your time and your answers Dr. Hagen and I hope you are enjoying the Olympics. I certainly am.
Regards,

Hello,
I called and am going in tomorrow at 9 a.m. I stopped the Vigamox approx. 27 hours ago and the skin disorder is still getting worse. It's on the insides of my cheeks now.
I'm assuming it won't start to improve until all the vigamox is out of my system.
The person I talked to on the emergency line asured me that stopping the Vigamox early would not harm my eye.
That was my greatest fear.
I also noticed tiny little blood blisters all over me about the size of pinheads. ( Sorry...not ALL over me...just close to where the lesions are )

I know Dr. Gimbel. While you may not get in till Tuesday one or more ophthalmologists should be on call and you should be able to get in touch with them. I would call right. now. I have not heard of this problem nor experienced it. CALL NOW

Dr. Hagen
Although my vision remains good I have developed a serious problem and I have no idea whether it is related to the surgery, the medication, a combination of both or if it is something totally unrelated.
2 days before the surgery I started Vigamox eye drops 4 times a day. The day OF my surgery I noticed a small rash around my hipline. I thought nothing of it and wrote it off as my jeans being too tight or something similar.
It has now developed into a full blown rash all over my trunk and torso and a few small lesions on my legs. The lesions range in size from a pea to a dollar with the average size being about dime sized. I am EXTREMELY tired ( which is unusual for me ). I went to the Medicentre 2 days ago and the doctor there suggested it could be pityrioses rosea. He didn't seem particularly concerned and said it would run it's course.
I did some research on the internet and I discovered that an allergy to Vigamox can cause this and it's listed under the serious allergies.
The earliest I can get into the EDMONTON Gimbel eye centre is Tuesday because this weekend is a holiday weekend and Tuesday morning would be my last dose of Vigamox anyway.
Will it do my eye any harm to stop it NOW? This skin condition is getting worse by the hour and it feels like I have to breathe really hard to get enough air. I called my pharmacist and he said to stop the Vigamox immediately.
I'm also putting prednisone drops in the eye and have to continue with those for 3 more weeks. I really don't know what to do. With MY luck...it's probably the prednisone and NOT the Vigamox that I'm allergic to but I couldn't find anything on the internet and the pharmacist said it was highly likely to be the Vigamox.
Getting back to my main question. Do you think stopping the Vigamox 2 days early could cause harm to my eye?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
S
